Resolved Question: How can I add a 220 volt outlet to my garage?

I want to buy a 60 gallon air compressor for my garage, so I will need to ad 220 power. My house is newer(built in 2004) but it was a spec home, so I couldn't have the builder add this since the house was wired already. I have good basic knowledge of how to wiring, and I was planning on doing all wiring myself except for the connection at the main breaker. Would an electrician be willing to connect this for me? I don't want to spend a small fortune, but I want to be safe too. I would need to either run cable through the garage ceiling through my attic and then outside since my breaker box is outside. Do I have to use conduit during any portion of the wire running? 12 gauge or 10 gauge wire?  more

Resolved Question: A/C Compressor on 93 Dakota is not working, it is has a full charge of coolant.?

it will work if it is wired directly to the battery but will not come on if just the wires are just hooked up as they are supposed to be. i do not uderstand why it will not turn on because there is 12-13 volts at the connector, but on the compressor side of the connector only has 0.12 volts, the connectors were cleaned and now i am unsure of what to do, any help will be appreciated.  more

Voting Question: electric energy and putting out more than taken in?

if a device cannot expel more energy than taken in then would someone please explain how an alternator on a car can take in 12 volts from the battery when the car starts the alternator then proceeds to charge the battery, run the lights, supply power the spark plug coil or coil packs ,run the air conditioning compressor and so on and so forth. if it is charging the battery while doing all this, with only 12 volts by the way, then how is it therefore not putting out more power than it is taking in?  more

Resolved Question: How do you run the ac compressor just by itself?

I have a car that has been troubling me with every known thing I checked all the wiring, relays, fuses. But I just wanted to know how to get the compressor to turn on to make sure that the clutch and all that is working. That is the part thats not turning on when the car is running. The clutch isn't turning on. And hence the pumps not running. So I ran all the wiring back and figured that you could just inject 12 volts into the pump but would like to know if this is a good thing or not so good thing to do. I fixed a ac on a refrigerator and you can't run the 120 right into the pump cause you will fry the thing. I don't know if it would be the same repercussions in doing so on a car. Thanks  more

Resolved Question: having problems with a compressor contactor fusing together evert 2 weeks. no voltage drop across contact poin

a new compressor replacement occured a few weeks ago and every two weeks the contactor fuses together on 2 of the three leggs causing the compressor to shut down on internal overloads. 208/230 vot 3 phase power. each leg read 120 to 124 volts to ground.no voltage drop on contact point from line to load. 40 amp contactor with compressor running at about 12 to 13 amps per leg. watched it cycle on and off. everytime threr unable to find anything wrong. copeland requirements is max of 30degrees super heat at compressor or less. getting about 28 degrees. this is second compessor in 2 months. its like clock work every 12 to 14 days contactor melts together. Could there be a voltage drop to the main panel from power grid at night causing higer amp draw. all wire connections are tight back to & including the breaker. a/c unit is in the same panel and it is only happening to the walkin cooler condenser  more

Resolved Question: dodge intrepid 1995 air conditioning system?

i have a 1995 Dodge intrepid 3.5 L with a ATC control Digital AC module and a 12 Volt relay on the dash module. It's a 12 volt relay with 4 prongs not 5 and is said to be the rear windowo defroster relay. The part is not longer made in the US per dodge and Chrysler dealers here. Whole Module is 525.00 but has no relay in the rear if pluged in. Told to go to the Junk Yard to get. Compressor is fine. Self diagnotics read 23 ATC Blend blend door feed back control ? and and ATC head communications failure. Works some time then goes from dash fan to deforest fan . The some times works fine. . The 12 volt relay which module is a chrysler product , pulls only 10.5 on a volt meter. . Could this be the problem , low voltage. . Compressor is fine. All relays under the hood are new are pull 75 olms per haynes repair manual. ATC control in the dash, with small fan runs but with only 10.5 volt getting to the power supply for all the unit , could it be the relay on the back of the dash module?  more

Resolved Question: 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee blowing cold air?

OK my 2001 GC was blowing cold air on the passenger side, now its on both sides. I recalibrated the actuators with the instructions on wjjeeps.com and tested the driver side actuator (easily accesable behind the glove box). Looks like the actuators are OK. I also noticed that this summer my A/C compressor was not turnning on when I pressed the A/C button on the control. I tested the compressor and it worked with a 12 volt input from the battery. I am now wondering if this problem is with the dual zone control in the dash. Has anyone had this problem or know if the control units go bad?  more
