I drove to Vegas and set my speedometer between 84 and 87, and not once did a cop look at me, and most of the time, I was either going the same speed as other traffic, or being passed. I did see 2-3 cars pulled over however. I can only imagine what ...

5Th Wheel Trailers Questions asked

Resolved Question: can a 5th wheel be hooked to a well and septic?

can i hook a 5th wheel(travel trailer) to a well and septic for a long period of time. i am looking for a cheap way to live and have recently found a 5th wheel that i am interested in buying. i was thinking of putting it on a piece of land(that i own) and hooking to a well and septic because i really don't think i would have the time to dump and refill the tanks. but if i can't hook it to a well and septic i will. i would just rather it be possible to hook to the well and septic. and if how long i would stay in it would help you any then i would be staying anywhere from 1 - 5 years.  more

Voting Question: Is Wallpaper or Paint better for the interior of a '91 5th wheel camper?

I have an outdated look in my 5th wheel and we are wanting to update it a little. Im running into a problem that I cant find any facts on. We are wanting to do this for a good price. I am at the dilemma of using textured wall paper or paint. I just have a few issues I'm concerned with. With textured wall paper in a camper, there are so many cabinets and windows in such a tight space, Im afraid it will end up looking tacky because im not a pro wall paper tech. But i love the textured look and think it will look nicer. As for paint, My walls are currently an outdated trailer house looking flower wallpaper, (driving me crazy), and its smooth which i don't care to much for. I know I need to primer first but my concern is where the slide outs go in and out, at the bottom the existing wallpaper is warp with the possibility of the actual walls being warped. How will I overcome this w/out it looking tacky and with having to replace the walls? My husband and I are hunters and we are going w/ a Mossy Oak hunting/outdoor rustic theme. I could really use any tips, tricks, hints, websites and forums to help me out. I would like to have it done by April. Thank you for all your help! Here is the website to my camper so you can get more of a feel on it. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.editAlbumPhotos&albumID=2386226&MyToken=93369a0c-4c3a-432e-8bac-ba54caf3d111  more

Resolved Question: what should i live in?

my cousin has agreed to let me stay on a piece of her land free of charge. but now i need a shelter to put on her land. (she owns like 50 acres and it is private property) i was thinking of getting a 5th wheel but i don't know how often i would have to dump it. i need electricity and running water. i work on minimum wage so i can't afford rent or anything. so a house or an apartment is out of the question. i can afford to have a well set up but can like a 5th wheel be set up to run off a well permanently. also could it be set up to a septic tank permanently. my friend has a trailer house and has it set up to a well for water and i septic tank and all she has to pay is a loan payment, electric and her Satellite bill because she has a prepaid cell. can i do this with a 5th wheel without having to dump the tanks. i can't just buy a trailer house because i can't afford it. whatever is decided it needs to be suitable for 2 people because my sister will be living with me. we will be living in it for at least 1 - 2 years. please answer.  more

Resolved Question: is it possible to live in a traveling trailer?

i have been saving up money for a while now and have recently discovered that i can afford a few acres. thing is i can't afford rent for a house or apartment. i figured that i saved up enough to pay cash for land, so i should be able to save up more for a house. until then i was going to see about purchasing a traveling trailer (5th wheel) or rv. if i were to live in either one how would i go about doing so. like do i have to have a generator for electricity or what. as far as plumbing goes do i just need to empty and refill the tanks every once in awhile if so how often. which one would be better to live in. t.trailer or rv. could you give me dollar signs on what you think it would cost for like a well and septic. i live in Oklahoma. i would go for city water however the land i will be buying is way out in the country and i don't know if i would be able to get city water. also i would be living in it for atleast 1year or more. i am going to be pruchasing at least a 35' - 40' because my friend is going to be living there with me so we need room for 2 people.  more

My travel trailer ( I live in) water heater has propane and it clicks when I turn it on but it does not light up. I have to go out there with a lighter while someone inside turns it on which is a pain. It is an electric start Atwood water heater. What do you think the problem is? Voting Question: Minimalist Mamas...what is TRULY necessary for a newborn?

We will be living in a 5th-wheel because my husband moves around constantly because of his job so we are trying to avoid getting things we can really go without. Things I know we WILL need: Carseat (we are getting a Britax Marathon, I have no desire to lug her around everywhere in her carseat so I'd rather just get one that stays in the car and use a sling the rest of the time) Sling and Mei Tai, since I'm going to wear her most of the time Cloth Diapers Diaper Bag, portable roll up Changing Pad Baby Clothes Things I'm considering NOT getting: Stroller...we'll probably wait on that until she's walking and just get an umbrella stroller since I plan to wear her until then. The ones appropriate for an infant are way too big to store in a trailer. Crib...we plan to cosleep (with all the proper safety precautions) and there's no room for one anyway. Bottles...I'm planning to exclusively breastfeed. If I decide to pump I can always go get a pump & store set later. Baby Monitor...it's a trailer. Nowhere I can't hear her. What can you add to my list? What other things would you consider absolutely necessary and what items are often considered "standard" but can reasonably be done without? Please note that we are more concerned with space than cost. We also are not interested in introducing pacifiers...we can always run to Wal-Mart and get one if we change our minds, but I'd rather not add one more thing we'll just have to wean her off of later. Ooh, forgot about the Boppy. Good reminder. I am planning on getting a boppy to prop her head up when she's on the floor playing and to help with tummy time, plus a My Brest Friend nursing pillow since I've heard they work better than the boppy for nursing. Also planning on getting one of those gyms with the activity mat because they fold/roll up pretty compactly. Not sure about the swing though...that's a pretty big space hog. I might wait on that and decide after she's born. Keep in mind everything we have to "set up" is going to basically block the hallway as long as it's up, and even though they fold up a pack & play takes up way too much room for our situation since our storage space is so limited. The good thing is that we'll be in Texas where we can have a lot of outside time most of the year since it's warm. We're using BumGenius 3.0 cloth dipes so covers are not needed, but thanks for the reminder on the wet bag and clothesline.  more

Resolved Question: Is it legal to ride in a 5th wheel trailer?

I am travel for 9 hours in a full truck. I was wondering if it is legal to ride in the 5th wheel trailer we are towing. We are not crossing any country borders, but we are crossing a provincial border. There are no seatbelts in the 5th wheel but the chances of being pulled over are slim. Is it legal to ride in the trailer? Note: this is important, I am leaving tommorow I will be riding from Alberta, Canada to somwhere in BC, Canada.  more

Resolved Question: When Optimus Prime transforms into a robot where does the 5th wheel on the big rig go?

for those of you that don't know, the 5th wheel is the horseshoe looking thing on the back of the truck that hooks onto the trailer. i think the trailer was an add on. He transforms from just the rig, not in addition to the trailer. That would be a HUGER robot if he added the mass of a trailer onto it ok, i just got through watching the movie and at the very end it does a close up of OP. the 5th wheel is in the lower part or the middle of his back. Thanks for all your answers <3  more

Resolved Question: Family weekend away (non vacation) - Do you do them? Do you camp or hotel?

We are always getting away on weekends with 3 kids (5-9y/o). We just pack up the tent and head out to either to the nearest dirt road with some trees or a campground. Our friends think we're nuts - are we? We've been doing this since the youngest was less than a year old and the others were sleeping in tents at 5 months old. Do you camp often or is it too much of a pain? Do you get away for hotel weekends? We do that too even if it's just an hour away to break up the routine. If you camp do you do a tent or RV (if so what kind, tent trailer, 5th wheel, etc). Do you do campgrounds or roughing it and bath in a creek (we love that!). We are probably away half of the weekends each year - somewhere. Does anyone else do that? The weekends we aren't away - the tent is up in the backyard and the boys and sometimes all of us are sleeping out. Sometime Mom stays in the house on those nights so she can get some well deserved rest!  more

Resolved Question: We need help finding options where to live this winter with a newborn coming? Any advice would be appreciated?

We have to move in the next month because my mother-in-law's house we are in... sold and now we will be homeless in little less than a month... we've been looking for places this whole time but haven't found anything we can afford.. we pay just the normal bills.. power, water..phone and don't have hardly anthing left over. We both work but I'm having a baby in October and won't be able to go right back after c-section. We were thinking about buying a 5th wheel trailer and live in that, with the 3 other children!! :) Our rent would be $300 more than probably buying a cheap house if we went to the one low income apts. I've already looked into that~ There is one piece of property with 1/2 acre with a shop on it.. we could try to make into an apt. I guess.. but then that extra cost! ??? Any help or advice??? thank you  more

Resolved Question: What are the major disadvantages of owning a 5th wheel or trailer compared to an RV?

My wife and I are considering full time RVing. We saw a nice new RV for 70,000, than noticed that 5th wheel and trailers, which look about the same are MUCH cheaper. Obviously you have to tow the trailers, but what, if any, are the other disadvantages???? Thank You, Brian.  more

Resolved Question: Tornado hit home and total loss ?

House will prob. be declared a total loss...what does that mean? If declared that term will the dwelling coverage of the insurance be paid out to the max as well as the contents? There also is a loss of use amount on my insurance policy, will that be paid out to me in full/I have to pay first and then get reimbursed. Not much can be done since the electric can't even be turned on till next month and many homes have a do not occupy sign posted...IT won't be a quick fix. CAn an upcoming purchase of a rv/5th wheel travel trailer be placed under a loss of use claim since living in a 1 room hotel is just difficult w/ a family? Will the insurance company make offers on total loss in terms of what will be paid out or is it an auto max payment of what the dwelling covers? Or does it go beyond the dwelling coverage if the fair market value is used since repairing it into what it used to be exceeds the dwelling coverage amount? thank you  more

Resolved Question: Could you live in a motel with kids?

Here is the story and I want to know can you handle it? Family of six... Father gets a new job in another state and moves there living in a 5th wheel trailer. Ok sounds fine right. Well, the house the mother and four kids were renting just got sold and they had exactly one week to get out. Doesn't sound very legal but they were able to get out of the house after threats by the property management of the home. The mother and four kids packed everything up and put into storage. Then they drove to the state the father was in and found a motel that excepted weekly rate plus room for a animal. Now, living in a total unfamilar state mother has to find a job to be able to bring in enough money to help put a down on a house. (Rent) The childrens ages are 5, 8, 16 and 20. The 20 year old is also willing to find a job to help out in the situation. The father makes good money but now they are paying a weekly rate for motel and a monthly rate for space of the 5th wheel. The question is could you handle living in a motel for a month or two? Why or Why Not? Ok so the plan was in set but was changed not by them but by the owner of the home they were renting in the first state. They were planning on relocating in september. The 20 year old does not need to live on their own since he was going to school full time. As for the father making good money. It is very hard to find a rental home where they live due to the booming oil industry. So, yes he does make good money. Considering he pays 1800 for the motel and 500 for the space a month. Those that know will understand. A 5th wheel is a camp trailer. The father is not in the same city as the mother and children he is located in a different city to which they could not find a motel there that excepted weekly rates. I ask this question so i can see exactly what people would or would not do.. If you choose to put this family down to unfortunate events then that is fine. He puts 5 applications in to business' a day and 5 online a day. The 16 year is not allowed to have a job due to her schooling. That comes first. Ok, well sounds like roy is just out to be negative towards other people. First of all the parents don't smoke. They are very religous people who take dear to their children. It sounds like to me that you really had a plan too in life living in a motel also. So, I don't see where you can get off judging such a nice family. The family's goal is exactly one month to make sure they have enough for two months rent and the down. To the answer about state assistance. The family chooses not to use any state assistance. Simple question simple answers. Thanks to those that are answering from their point of views!  more

Voting Question: First time drug arrest for cocaine - Calif?

Last week I was arrested for possession of a little less than 1 oz. of powder cocaine in Orange Cty. Calif. I was out walking at 1:00 am, about 1/2 mi. from my 5th wheel trailer. I had $1000. in my wallet. The cops came over and asked to search me and I approved. They found the coke, and after roughing me up for over an hour, coaxing me to take a swing, pounding and kicking me, I did take a swing with an open hand. They hauled me off to jail and I also gave them permission to search my trailer. They found nothing as there was nothing. I was not selling or buying. Any idea what I'm looking at for time. Resolved Question: Who makes the best "all around" travel trailer?

Hi, I am looking at purchasing a travel trailer to be my temporary home for the next 6 months. I do not want a 5th wheel, but something I can pull behind my 2003 Ford F150. I have looked at models such as "Jayco, Cardinal, Fleetwood, Keystone, etc.." I would prefer something no more than 10 years old and between 23-30 ft in length. Hoping to pick something up in the $5000 -$6000 range. I've done alot of looking on eBay and there are many to choose from that fit my criteria, but I'm not sure which brand is best as far as quality built, easy to maintain, etc... Do we need to go to a dump site and try to flush it out? I can't imagine that we can drain and flush it out on our lawn or anything. But I think we need to get the antifreeze out first.
