I currently own a 33cc 14" Poulan Chainsaw that anymore just doesn't seem to cut it. I rented a 20" Makita Chainsaw and was very pleased with it. I'm not wanting to spend a whole lot on this, maybe $200 at the most. The engine on mine still works great, but porbably needs a good tune up and a cleaning. Would it be advisable to put a larger bar on this one? I'm seeing many chainsaws now available that have 33cc engines with a much larger bar. it wont start and when it does it dies after you let off the trigger. when it runs after u release the trigger it still runs full out. new plug, new fuel, but ran 50:1 fuel ratio. is that a problem cause it calls for 40:1 mix. how should i adjust the carb. i suspect that is the problem. fuel line looks fine. ran fine the other day, until it got hot. when it warms up it overheats. but today it wont even try to fire. i screwed the l and h screws in all the way and out 1 turn each. its my dads saw and it has had the 50:1 all its life(3 years). finally got it started for 2 sec. sprayed it down w/ carb. cleaner. its wide open all the time and kinda scares me. lol. i cant get it to idle low much less slow enough for the chain to not spin. why does it run full power all the time when the trigger isnt depressed? moreResolved Question: What is the average RPMs for a 40cc chainsaw?

My Poulan chainsaw wouldn't start after setting up for over a year so I took it to the local fix-it shop. Got it back and it started fine. I made up a gallon of gas using the little Poulan bottle of oil for 1 gallon at 40:1 mix like always. The chain saw ran for about 5 minutes (it stopped once for no reason but started up again). Then it stopped for good. Took it back to the shop and they said it was burned up. Said I ran it without oil but I used the same oil as I always had. Sure pick Stihl. Even for someone who knows nothing about chainsaws, that brand just appears to be superior. My request is not to simply pick the best but rather to understand why one is better than the other. After all, machining of the components and motor technology are not what one would view as new stuff. Thanks Thanks Cat and Summer for your insight. I have also learned that both Stihl and Husq have much bigger engines (more powerful and heavier). I found some at Home Depot and Wal-Mart that supposedly fit my saw but they do not have the hole for the adjuster and does not have the hole for it to get oil from the reservoir. These seem to be the only bars I can find am I supposed to drill the holes in it myself? This would be difficult for the oil hole as it does not go all the way through the bar. Are they correct even if they don't seem to be. I don't want to do anything that may be unsafe. The saw has a sticker that says I should use part #044167 for the bar but i can't find anything on it.
