Ac Compressors Questions asked

Open Question: Removed AC clutch fuse to save gas and run smoother?

Please, excuse my lack of knowledge regarding auto AC systems. Earlier today, I removed the fuse for my AC clutch. Lately the compressor turns on randomly(during winter, with heat on) and it causes the car to run somewhat rougher. However, I never use the AC anyway. So by removing the AC clutch fuse, will the compressor turn on? Or will it still engage? Also, will this save me gas? Thank you and any tips would be appreciated:) Also, would simply unplugging the compressor have the same results as simply removing the clutch fuse?  more

Open Question: 95 ford Taurus 3.0 wgn ac compressor ?

If the compressor is seized does that mean the pulley wont run cause Before i go pulling the ac relay Id like to know if doing that would unsieze the pulley, I can live without the ac and defrost but if its just the pulley how would I know if were that or compressor I know the belt is burning up and that the pully doesnt turn , I was just hoping un plugging or removing ac compressor would help at least till I can buy the part ( im not driving the car) but was hoping to make it drivable wether I need to buy just the pully set or a new compressor  more

Open Question: Can I bypass the compressor by using a smaller belt?

The AC compressor on my friend's 1996 Mazda Protege 1.5L is seized and won't turn at all. The car doesn't use a single serpentine belt; it uses a couple. The one in question goes around the crankshaft pulley, AC compressor pulley, and power steering pulley. Does anyone know of a reason why I couldn't just use a belt made for a Protege without AC that only goes from the crankshaft to the power steering? I can't look at the car because it's far away but I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work.  more

Open Question: I have a 94 honda prelude, hot days, won't start. ?

My cooling fans do not turn on, but car does not overheat unless at stop for a few seconds. Blower motor does not work, and ac compressor is locked up. Heater control on the dash, none of the lights work, and when buttons are pressed, nothing lights up there either. i have done research i have replaced fuel pump do to thinking it was really the problem when it wouldn't start, but obviously it is the main relay. what i don't think is that the main relay because the lights on the hearter control do not come on, even though it has to go through not only the main relay, but the computer as well. there is twelve volts at all outside and inside fuses, and no fuses are broken. Honda's have problems obviously. any guesses, besides what i have mentioned?  more

Resolved Question: My central heat and air unit has stopped blowing ANY air!?

It kicks on and seems to be working fine, except for the fact that either heat or air will actually flow. Nothing seems to be flowing through my vents. So far I have cleaned all the inside vents and outside vent around the unit itself. I have an old gas powered heating unit that I have been using since it went out. So since it has been blowing air through the vents well I'm pretty sure it's gotta be the unit itself. What are the main things that could be wrong? I have noticed that if I turn the ac on the line and compressor is freezing over so I prob need freon....  more

Resolved Question: NTC Thermistor and AC Compressors?

Hi. We're off grid and therefore installing a 3 phase Diesel generator. Each phase is rated at 20 Amps continuous(23 Amps max). we want to run 3 Split type ACs, one on each phase, plus some other small appliances. Our problem is that each AC has a start up current of 20 Amps, which will trip the safety circuit on the generator everytime it comes on.The ACs running current is only 8 Amps, but jumps to 20 Amps for a split second everytime the Compressor comes on. Is there a way to fix this problem with NTC Thermistors? Can any one give me some idea what sort of a NTC Thermistor I have to use? We run on 220-240 V, 50 HZ power. Thanks for your answers  more

Resolved Question: Any experienced Electrical Engineers out there?

Is there a simple way to control the start up current on the ACs? I read something about putting a coil of wire on the input of the Compressor. I tried that with a water pump just to check if it works. The surge current was still there. Any ideas if I can use a Capacitor? If yes, can you tell me what capacity I should use? If you give me the formula I can figure it myself. We run on 220-240 Volts, 50 HZ. Thanks for your answers  more

Resolved Question: WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE WITH THIS CAR. should it be worth 550?

The AC compressor went out and needs to be replaced, when the compressor died it shares the same belt with the power steering pump, so if you replace the compressor then you will have power steering. If you dont want to put any money into the car and can live without a/c, a mechanic may be able to figure out how to bypass the compressor pulley and make the power steering work again. It takes a little muscle to drive without power steering but is manageable. The engine is occasionaly sputtering, it had the same symptoms earlier in the year and one of the two ignition coils were replaced. I can only assume it is the same problem this time and now the other coil has gone bad. It is something that is easy to replace and takes about 10 minutes. The coil is @ $85. I cannot think of any thing else that would need to be fixed, the engine seems ok even after the overheat. It doesnt burn oil, it doesnt use water, and it doesnt have any major leaks.  more

Resolved Question: Motor soft Starter. How does it work?

Hi. My house runs on a generator. I have a problem with the ACs when they kick in. each AC (and there are three of them, one on each phase) pulls 18 Amps as when the compressor kicks in. Is there a way to make it have a 'soft start'? Here's an excerpt from an article I read on the web: "One method is to use the same wire used to feed power to the input of small HP AC drives and create an air core reactor by winding the feed wire into a coil, with a diameter of the width of a hand, about 75 turns and tie wrap the coils. This is done in each input phase. In many installations, these handmade coils will provide sufficient inductance to slow the current and limit over voltage shutdowns" So can I put this 75 turns winding at the input of each AC so that i can reduce the start up current to its operating current of 8 Amps? Your advise would be very much appreciated  more

Voting Question: Why does my Heater/AC unit make this clicking noise?

Only when we run the heat in our house dose this happen. The unit will make this click, click, click... noise. It happens maybe once or twice a night, and will click a multitude of time before it goes away. I included a link below. I don’t know if the compressor has anything to do with the issue or not. Resolved Question: When I jump the gas furnace's (gas pac) thermostat's red and blue wires, I get a fairly big spark. Heat is OK?

I have a fairly new HVAC Gas Pac furnace. I had to replace the thermostat. The heat side is running just fine, but when I flip to "cool" the t'stat sparks and really doesn't like it. I unhooked all the wires and when I jump the blue and red wires, I get a fairly substantial spark. The thermostat wires in the furnace seem to be connected fine and the compressor fan turns freely by hand. I guess I've never actually used the AC and the installer wouldn't return my calls ( turns out 'cause he's in jail). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You  more

Resolved Question: fuel pump/fuel pressure issue?

I have a car that has had some problems starting. Its a 02 chevy malibu. I had so far various ideas ranging from spark plugs to a bad fuel pump as reasons why the pump does not start. The car's known "failure" at the moment is a AC compressor that is burnt so the relay for the Ac compressor has been taken out of the circuit and I don't use the defogger on the car anymore. What I have noticed is that in the winter time, car runs rough when the tank is below half full. If I fill up it immediately goes away. Sometimes the car does not start but will start if its put in the garage for 5-10 minutes. I thought it was bad spark plugs, or water in fuel(I live in Alaska). Got new spark plugs(OEM), new wires, and I am adding isoheet to fuel. I also thought it might be a fuel pump issue. Had an autoshop start the vehicle cold at about -20F, tested the fuel line pressure and everything turned out ok. This was on 1/2 a tank full or so at the time. I also thought I might have an winterization problem with a heater. Had that checked, everything on that checked out ok as well. I also thought since the engine has 83000 miles, it might need a higher octane not to run rough so I switched to 90 from 87. I also thought that it might be a battery or a starter issue. Battery is cranking at almost 700CCA which is 90%+ of rated specs. I changed the battery 7 months ago. I had a starting diagnosis and the starter checked out fine. I had the injectors checked for leakage as well. Injectors, even though they are kinda old are still ok as well. I also thought it might be my engine oil so I use now Mobile 1 synthetic rated to run at -50F. The last time the vehicle did not start and I had to have it towed in,(after trying to start it 7-8 times) the repair shop said battery was low, they charged it, and it immediately started. I did have somebody jump me at home with a gmc sierra, for over 15 minutes, but that didnt do anything and I had been unable to start it. Any ideas on what might be causing my no start issues?  more

Voting Question: 2001 Mits Eclipse overheating.. Help!?

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was first told it was the radiator and got that replaced. The probelm was still there. Next I was told it was the waterpump, thermostat, and coolant sensor. The problem is still there. Now im being told that my AC compressor has a hole in it which is causing loss of pressure in the system, which in turn is not allow the fans to kick on to high speed. Is this right? To my understanding the AC system and the coolant system are 2 different things. Please let me know what you think.  more

Voting Question: vehicle - thick AC pipe freezing up?

Chrysler Sebring, 2001, 2.4 LX. Evaporator and expansion valve replaced (heavy gas leaks). Now, when the AC fan stays on "low" (1 or 2) for some time (e.g. 10 minutes in lower temperatures, 20 minutes when it's hot) I see the odorless vapor coming off the dash vent. Today I found out (outside temp. about 78 degrees - AC on because of 100% air humidity) with A/C on "1" that the thick pipe (that is usually very cold) has frozen up - it had an ice cap. I turned on the regular ventilation, and in about 1 minute the ice was gone. I did some testing and the pipe "freezes up" in less than 5 minutes if the fan is on "1" or "2" (with low outside temp). The airflow from the vent is also reduced (cooling can be felt, but very low air flow even on "3" or "4" fan speed). Outside temperature about 78 degrees. If the fan is on "3" or "4" the thick pipe does not freeze up. During the noon-time (hot outside), it works quite well with fan on "3" or "2" ("1" is too low to cool at noontime). One more thing - before the evaporator was changed I know the compressor was cycling on and off - in hot weather it was cycling less, with lower outside temperatures it was cycling more. NOW, the compressor stays on and does not cycle. Already Tried: testing AC fan speeds. No leaks. Full refrigerant. Holds pressure. Additional info: Compressor does not cycle. It did before evaporator job was performed. Additional info 2: No heat. When heat on, the air that blows is a bit warmer, but not hot. AC compressor stays on even if "hot air"/heating is selected. No coolant leaks, no overheating.  more

Resolved Question: Ac compressor defroster fuse idea?

On a 2002 malibu does the defroster and the AC compressor run off the same fuse? If so and if you take the fuse out and you use the defroster would that/could that cause an overload? I was also told that the AC(which is burnt somewhere) is electrically connected to the anti theft system passlock II, and an overload in the system could engage the anti theft. The 10 A fuse for the compressor blows every time I put it in.  more

Voting Question: chevrolet malibu 2002 ac compressor electrical/fuse problem?

Ok.. I own a malibu 2002. I have had some problems with the car not starting so I decided to do a few things about it. Changed plugs and plug wires, had the winterization on car checked and had a fuel pressure test done when the car is started cold. All tests checked out to be normal. Fuel pump works, spark I have plenty of.. etc. I do however have a fault in the AC system. Because I live in Alaska, if I don't necessarily have to fix the AC system(which may be very expensive in a FWD car) I would like not to fix it. The fault is at yet undiagnosed, but every time that the 10AMP fuse for the AC compressor is put into its slot on the fuse box it burns out and it turns off my fuel gauge, engine temp gauge, and all dash background lights. I was also told that on my car, the passlock II system is on a similar/interlinked circuit with the AC. In addition to this I was told that even with the AC"out of the system" by leaving the fuse not plugged in if I turn on the rear defroster, this turns on the AC compressor. With me not having a fuse in there and something wrong in the AC system this may cause an electrical overload and, this may trigger the car not to start. Basically every now and then when i try to start the car it turns over, but a few seconds later the fuel gauge drops to E and the empty light turns on. This is similar (I think) to a passlock II system engaging as you don't have any fuel if the antitheft is engaged. Do you think the cause of my problem might be what this mechanic described? Can It be something else? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  more

My 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport's ac/heater system has been malfunctioning for about 3 years.. here's the problem.
