About a year and a half ago I purchased a jon-boat from walmart and I haven't registered it yet. I just haven't gotten around to it. I still have all the paperwork, title etc. from when I bought it. I would like to know exactly what I will need with me when I go to DMV to register it? If that is the correct place to get it registered? It is a 10 ft jon-boat, aluminum. I don't have a motor on it yet, but only plan on putting a 40 or 50 lb thrust minnkota, trauling motor. I would like to know how much it will cost me when I go to DMV also. I would like to make it legal for the summer so I can get out and use it. I would like to hear from people who have actually done this. Thanks for the help. Also, what safety equipment do I need on board? I know life jackets, but then what? I also have a home made trailer. I know I need to get a vin# stamped on it. I would also like to know how to go about getting it street legal.  more

what can i do to get the trailer/boat titled to my name only id on the boat is a hull id on the sides and a registration sticker that expired in 1987. an there is no serial number anywhere on the boat and trailer. also I bought a 9.8 hp mercury motor with cash at a fleamarket and it has a serial number on it and no title came with it and it need to be titled in my name so it legal to use on the water and it need to be titled in texas  more

The boat is a 10' new aluminum boat that unfortantley I can not get it registered. I won in a raffle and have no MSO (manufacter statmen t of orgin) So it would cost me more to register the boat than what you can buy a new one for ($400.00) So I am trying to get some ideas of what I can use it for? Resolved Question: How thick does a jon boat transom have to be?

I'm replacing the transom on a 14' aluminum boat. I don't know what the original thickness of the transom was. This year, it'll just hold a trolling motor for small creeks. I hope to buy a used 3.5 or 5 HP gas outboard next spring for larger boies of water. Will 1/2" treated plywood hold a small gas outboard, or should I think about installing something thicker- I don't want to have to do this again in 9 mos. Thank you!  more

have a 25 hp tracker engine on my small 15 ft aluminum v-hull fishing jon-engine runs great but when boat reaches planing speed at or about 3/4 throttle it feels likt the prop comes out of the water--stops producing thrust,although i am sure it is in the h20-engine revs high and boat slows down----anyone have any ideas or experienced this ?your input is appreciated.thanks in advance.  more

Resolved Question: Has anyone tried hauling a 14 foot aluminum jon boat strapped down on top of a minivan? Will it work?

I am buying a 14 foot flat bottom boat tomorrow. No motor or anything. Is it feasable to try and haul it home strapped down on top of my minivan (96 Mercury Villager). The boat is 14 feet long and 56 inches wide at the top. I don't plan on going that fast with it and I will be using several tie downs and bungee straps to secure it.  more
