Resolved Question: Aprilaire humidifier - service, replace completely, replace partly?

I have an Aprilaire Model 760 whole house humidifier. Its about 17 years old and the fan has started running very noisily. I need to get it fixed but the service call would cost me almost as much as a new unit and I expect they will just say I need a new unit anyway. I would like to just replace the whole cover which includes the fan section (it snaps off/on very easily) and there's no real installation to be done. I would be willing to buy a full unit to do this but it seems that the Model 760 that I have is now updated to Model 700. My question is, will that cover/fan fit the 760 or would I have to install the base part of it too? Is it difficult to switch out the entire unit if needed? Should I have it done professionally? more

Resolved Question: Humidifier question?

I have an older Aprilaire humidifier mounted on my furnace. My house gets really dry and has been giving me a sore throat each morning so I'm looking for some help. The tube that runs down from the humidifier is completely dry and looks like it has been for a while. Because of how it's mounted with wires and all, I wouldn't even know where to begin to add water and I also can't find the a dial (humistadt?) to make any adjustments. There is a round thing on the side that has copper lines passing through it, but that's about it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! more

The humidifier does not get any water. The copper waterline was turned on Sunday, 11/11/ 07 but the water does not flow into the humidifier. A new pad was installed in February '07. anyone have any ideas?? more

Copper water line installed 2000 and was originally connected to a 550 model. changed to a modelo 600 in June 2006. The unit worked fine this past winter. more

I currently have a new furnace with an old Aprilaire 110 furnace humidifier. The humidifier is not working- and I would like to replace it. Any suggestions on a make/model that is reliable and easy for me to install? I would really like to not have to cut/alter the sheet metal if at all possible....Thanks more

water runs thru the unit and out the bottom flow valve whenever the unit runs. Is this normal? It seems like a waste of water. more

I know they are suppose to hiss when the water runs through them, but it does it constantly. I had the control set at 40 degrees, and i turned it down one notch so the hissing would stop. Could it be hissing because the outside temperature is too warm for the humidifier? I just changed the water pad, and cleaned out the frame. Aprilaire model 600 humidifier more
