Resolved Question: I'm remodeling my kitchen & need opinions on cabinets!?

I'm finally getting rid of my 1961 kitchen and can't make up my mind! I have hard oak floors throughout the house..including the dining room which is open to the kitchen. I'd like to put in cork floors (& be somewhat "green" in my remodeling) in the kitchen and think it would blend nice with the oak floors (unless someone thinks of something else?) I can't decide what would look better..maple or natural cherry cabinets. The kitchen is only 10x13 and will be putting in 40" cabinets since I have a cathedral ceiling...does cherry and oak clash? Too much natural wood tones going on? I'd like to put a apron front / farm sink in, granite countertops and tin backsplash..those I do know I want... I need a professional designer but that's definately not in the budget. All opinions and suggestions are welcome....I have to order cabinets within 2 weeks!!! Thanks All !! I can't go too modern with a house full of antiques..i'm in the country and am shooting for a modern/classic/simple country feel..with stainless appliances of course. I did not want oak cabinets, but with oak floors it makes sense. it's a starter house and resale is everything..what do people like? more

Resolved Question: Can "Apron front" kitchen sinks be covered with a wood panel?

I am starting my kitchen remodel and I am hunting for a GREAT sink: it has to be a single basin, oversized and undermounted. I love the size and shape of "apron front" sinks, but I do not want the front of the sink exposed, I would prefer to not see it at all (also why I want a undermounted sink) But I cannot find any sinks that have all three of those together that are not "Apron front" (where you see the front of the sink). Have you seen this done before or do you have any advice? I just love the large rectangle sink, but I do not want to have the "front" of my sink on display... does anyone have a good website that sells these or any ideas what I can do? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Will an apron front sink (also called farmhouse) look out of place in a traditional kitchen?

We will begin construction on a house in Tennessee in March of 2006. I like the idea of an apron front sink but am very hesitant since they are usually used in a country style house (our style is traditional). I prefer a white "fireclay" sink, but I know there are many different materials to choose from in this style sink. I am open to a new material (i.e. copper, stainless steel) as long as it is durable and cleans easily. I've heard an apron front sink is easier on the back since I would not have to lean over as far and I like having the sink out front as opposed to leaning up against cabinetry which starts to look bad because of water and the rubbing of my clothes. more
