Resolved Question: An old Ariens snowblower?

I have an old Ariens snowblower with a detachable front half (the first and second stage). I am having a problem getting the drive belt back on the front half. The belt has too much slack. Does anyone know how the belt is suppose to back on? The model number is 924042. Thanks again for any help! more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with my ariens snowblower?

It sat for a few years indoors..started this winter, but engine kicked up by itself periodically and spit out fire. ..changed out the carberator. Now it idles rough with choke closed, but on next setting it races and spots fire again. There is no inbetween. UPDATE: thanks for the reply. As for the gas, there was a leak in the feul line when I first started it, that I fixed. I'm sure by now all the old gas has been burned through or drained out. It ran okay for a few hours at first. ...The spark plug is new... I'm not sure where the air filter is located though. I'll give the carburator adjustment a try. I used it again today though and had a lot of trouble with it killing on me. Hopefully this will fix it. more

Resolved Question: Ariens snowblower with Snow king Tescuseh engine ?

I have a 5 horsepower engine. I loosed up the bowl ,the float with the needle valve for the gas jet fell out. The float attaches to he body of the carburetor with a small pin,The needle valve sits on top of the float.It has a very fine wire on it.This small wire fits into the opening where the float pin is inserted ? To hold it into the gas jet there by metering the gas. The float and the needle valve work together to deliver the proper amount of gas to run the engine? Is this small wire inserted facing the engine or in the opposite direction? away from the engine ? more

I am looking to swap the engine on my old Ariens snowblower (70's). I think it is a 5 horse Tecumseh and am looking to swap it with Tecumseh HSSK50-67418 5 H.P. Snow King Snow Blower Engine. How hard and will this work? Also, are there any other engines that would be EASIER to swap with (no modifications necessary). Thanks. Which engine did you end up going with? more

Resolved Question: Snowblower Help - Which Type?

I live close to Boston city. We get abt 40" of snow annually with an avg. snowfall of 5-6" with some more than 8". I live in a town house & dont have a lot of space - 1 car wide, and 2 cars long. But the problem is our garage is below the house & we have a sloping driveway up to the street. The driveway is pretty steep & if not properly cleared my car just skids & cannot get out. I have been doing a lot of research & can't decide between a gas powered one-stage, like the Honda HS520 or a gas powered two-stage, like a small Ariens: 624E or even the 824E. My questions: 1) Is the two stage an over kill for a small snowfall of 1 to 2 inches? What do you do with a big machine in small snowfall? 2) Two stage is much bulkier/heavier than the one stage, which will be easier to control getting up the fairly steep driveway? 3) I need to clear down to the asphalt which type will be better? 4) I don't mind spending the money once and having this with me for the next 20 yrs. Resolved Question: Toro 421Q snowblower review/opinion?

My new Ariens 520E clears the icy snow at the end of the driveway, but is slow and very difficult to maneuver. I'm considering replacing it. Toro's website says that their single-stage, somewhat smaller 421Q should work, but the model is too new for there to be any reviews online. Advice would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Buying Large 2 Stage Snowblowers?

My neighbor has a concrete business, and does snow removal during winter. He always buys these large Craftsman 2 stage snowblowers for his jobs. It seems like he always has problems with them, and they are not even a year old! The plastic chutes break, shear pins break, and sometimes they dont run very good. He also has an older Toro. The Toro never has any problems! I told him today that he should invest in a brand new Toro, or Ariens snowblower instead of a Craftsman because that is what the professionals use, and they are made to handle the tough jobs. Besides they are much easier to get parts for, and probably have a better warranty. I never have problems finding parts for my 35 plus year old Ariens snowblowers. Am i right? more

Resolved Question: Snowblower Help!!!?

I was snowblowing with my 2 stage, Ariens snowblower and ran over a shovel. I got the shovel out but the auger won't turn! The things that throw the snow out of the chute turn but the auger doesn't. The only time that it turns is when the machine is off and you move it with your hand. Is that Is that bad that the auger will turn only when off? Please help! 18 inches of snow and only have a shovel! Best answer gets 10 POINTS! THX more

I live in upstate ny in the adirondack region where snowfall amounts can average around 90 inches per year. I just bought a house and need to purchase a snowblower. My driveway is around 15ft wide by 40ft long, and i will need to clear a path to my shed to store the unit, which is about 50ft away from the driveway. I have narrowed it down to an ariens brand, i just need to know the size i need. It appears my choices are the 10hp 27'' cut, or the 8hp 24'' cut. I need some advise, the only other difference btwn the two that seems significant is the fact that the 10hp machine has a headlight and the 8hp does not. Thanks for the help Also, the price difference btwn the two units is around $250, the 10hp obviously being the more expensive one more

Resolved Question: What size snowblower do I need in Massachusetts?

I have a 100' pavement driveway and we get 4-5 big snowstorms a year here in MA. We're looking at a Ariens 11.5hp 28" clearing path or should we drop back a notch to a 9hp 26" clearing path. Its about a $600 difference. Just don't want to overbuy and it takes up more room in the garage. Which size should we get and would you recommend an Ariens, Craftsman or Husquavana (something like that on the last one). Also are they easy to manuever? Thanks. more
