Automotive Battery Chargers Questions asked

Resolved Question: Portable Generator Purchase Decision?

I'm looking to purchase a portable generator about 5,000 watts. Can someone give me a good , reliable , and very common brand that would be easy to get parts for ( if needed ) not just engine parts but the generator as well. I don't really know briggs & stratton"s reputation these days but I know I still see the older motors going even today. I'd like to spend under $ 500.00 but really under $350.00 ideally.. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are just so many out there. Eastern Tool, Northern, Briggs, Troy Built etc...etc... I would be using this for my cottage apartment as well as "out on the road" for use with an automotive battery charger, Electric impact gun, and any type of camping needs. The higest consumer I can think of would be a portable electric heater at 1500w... I really don't need industrial. Thanks A model number would be great....heck, even a place to buy. Great advice. I figured in an emergency situation I might need (two) 1500 watt electric heaters for my apartment plus a light and maybe a small appliance. In fact, I could probably get away with a 2000 or 2500 watt generator if I use only one heater and a light . I don't want a lot of noise so it looks like I should really consider the Honda engine.. I'll keep doing my homework for a few more days... Thanks all...  more

Resolved Question: Power questions: batterys, inverters?

1.) 800 Watt Power Inverter (http://www.powersystemsdirect.com/Whistler/800_Watt_12V_Power_Inverter_PI-800W_1753.php) 2.) Optima Yellow car battery (http://www.amazon.com/Optima-Yellow-Cycle-D75-25/dp/B000AMJJDM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?) ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1195508752&sr=8-1) 3.) Resolved Question: Why couldn't I jump-start my car with a 70-amp charger?

Yesterday, I left my lights on all day while at work in sub-freezing temps and the battery was dead, dead, dead when I got off work. I drive a 1997 Mazda Protege. I had purchased a Schumacher "MityMite" Automotive Jump Starter/DC Power Source (PS-70A). It was fully charged. I attached the red clamp to the battery's positive pole and the black clamp to chassis ground. Nothing. Nada. I let it sit there for a few minutes. Not even the slightest hint that a charge was present. Lucky for me, someone else had jumper cables, so I jumped the car easily from a live car battery. What went wrong? I followed the directions to the letter.  more

Resolved Question: Can you guide me in choosing an automotive battery charger?

My hubby asked for a battery charger for Christmas. I know he needs one for the lawn mower battery but also for the camper and boat. I know the battery on the camper is a deep cycle and the one on the boat is a marine battery (is that deep cycle too?) He mentioned something about keeping the battery maintained. Is there a charger out there that I can get for both types of batteries? One that will also be a maintenance charger? Or do I need to get one for the regular batteries and a second for the deep-cycle batteries? I've tried looking at Sears, Northern and JC Whitney online but I don't know what I'm looking for. I'd like to stay under $200, if possible. Thanks in advance for any advise.  more
