Open Question: Can we fix our berber carpet?
We are currently in a rental and our dogs chewed up some of our carpet. The carpet is berber and we have left over carpet in storage from when it was installed. One chewed up piece is in a corner and the other is a long rectangle area maybe 2 feet long by 7 or 8 inches wide. That area that is chewed up is in the middle of the carpet. Is there any way to just cut out the peices and replace them with the extra carpet we have or is that not doable with berber carpet? If we can do it can you tell me how or who to contact. Thank you so much! moreOpen Question: Can tightly looped berber carpeting prevent pet urine from soaking through to the padding?
moreVoting Question: Best dog for my family?
Husband and I are buying our first house in the next month or two. The one we're trying to get is 1,067 sq feet, 3 bedrooms. Linoleum "hard wood" , berber carpet, and tile in kitchen. We have a cat (10 months old). I'm not sure how she'd do around a dog... whenever we've taken her to the vet, if someone brings in a large dog, she sniffs it & starts purring. Pretty cute. :) We want a dog that will alert us of intruders, be about medium size, not shed terribly, be able to have fun in a 1/3 acre yard (we'd put up a 7 foot privacy fence). I'd like one that is good with families (young kids, too) and cats. What would you recommend? And I don't care if it's AKC. Humane society would be great. What kind of breed/mix should we look for? I don't one that has to go get a haircut every couple weeks. We'd be able to pet, play with, and brush every day. Kind of want an adult dog that's not teething and is housebroken lol What kind of shih tzu breed...? Is it a mix? We had one for about a week & it ended up having health problems with his nose/snout, so we gave him to another family. He was a small (12 lb) dog. moreResolved Question: How much is it for a single sq. foot of berber carpet?
I live in Northern California. My dog has torn up a few inches from our stairs (the natural light hits there sometimes). We're thinking of moving soon and don't want the managers to know that it has happened so we want to conceal the evidence. By trying to do so, we've taken a few inches of carpet out of the closets and created even more of a problem because now everything just looks a mess. We weren't suppose to have pets in the first place and they were so nice as to let her stay. We really don't want to have to install a whole new floor of carpet because we're also in a financial headache. Yikes! Please help. moreOpen Question: How can I dye my off white Berber carpet with as little expense as possible?
The carpet was already in the house when we bought it and it is still in very good shape. I would like to make it a darker color, perhaps an earth tone color. My new furniture is leather (brown). Now I am of course on a tight budget. moreResolved Question: What kind and color od curtains should I get, and also maybe accent room with?
So I painted my new living room a color by Ralph Lauren called Cymric Silver. http://www.ralphlaurenhome.com/rlhome/products/paint/items.asp?haid=48. Its is kind of gray in color but very subtle and pretty. My furniture is currently black leather. I dont know what color curtains to get or a color to use as an accent! I need suggestions. Also the carpet is a white Berber with gray specks and I have black decorative rods. The window trim is wood, ceiling is white, and I have a very nice ceiling fan, also in black kinda resembles a flower..... moreResolved Question: Is berber carpet more expensive?
I am going to get new carpet and a friend told me to get berber because it wears better. Does it? Is it more expensive than a good plush carpet? moreResolved Question: Dream interpretation requested about this dream I had this morning, please?
Personal info: I'm 33, no kids, unmarried, and just graudated from college with a B.A. in Spanish, summa cumlaude. Here's the dream. Sorry it's so long, but you may find it to be rather different, as I have. I caused me to think about my life in ways that I never before had considered: I dreamed that I entered a building that I used to work in five years ago. As I approached the front doors, I was met by two young women, both in their early twenties. One of the young women had a spiral bound notebook and was writing messages in it, and she showed the written messages to the other young woman. I became upset because I felt the messages were gossip about me, so I said to the both of them, "Why don't you just grow up? Really." Then, I walked through the front doors of the building, walked down a hallway in the building, and I entered a room that I had never seen before. In this room, which appeared to be a rather newly constructed room, there were white walls, gray berber carpet, and a long gray colored table. Sitting at the table were my father, my mother, and a man whom I had never seen. The unknown man had a bald head with dark brown or black colored hair, a black mustache, he was very, very slender, and he wore a gray colored suit and looked like a business man of sorts. I realized that I had to give a formal presentation, so I began looking looking through a large packet of notes. This packet of notes was a book of PowerPoint slides. However, as I looked at the PowerPoint slides, I realized that all of the printed out slides in the book were information pertaining to every single thing, good and bad, in my life, and my presentation was going to be an account of everything I had done. I saw things that I hadn't seen in years, drawings from my childhood, notes, etc. My parents looked as if they were ready to offer assistance if I wanted any help, and the slender, balding man with a mustache had a very serious look on his face, as if he were trying to evaluate my life without any personal bias or influence. moreResolved Question: I have a some pet stains on my berber carpet. What is the best way to clean it?Is it hard to get the stains out?
Its starting to smell and im going to rent a carpet cleaning machine. moreResolved Question: Old smoothie carpet stain--how to remove?

I spilled Krylon Gloss on my Berber Carpet I have been trying to get it out but nothing seems to work does anyone know how I could get this out of the carpert and if so please tell me I would greatly appreciate it moreResolved Question: What color to paint my basement walls-have gray carpet?
My basement is finished, about 20'x30', the carpet is a medium gray berber, kind of a tweed look. I like lighter colored walls but the white is boring. The trim is a honey oak. moreResolved Question: Interactive R2D2 rolling on carpet?
I am looking to buy a R2d2 interactive robot for my boys for xmas. Our house is primarily berber carpet. It is older carpet and pretty thin does anyone have any input on how well it will work on this carpet. moreResolved Question: Roll of Carpet's weight?
How much approximately should a 12'x40' roll of cheap Berber carpet weigh? It is Sea Pines Willowdale from Lowes. Those intelligent people couldn't tell me anything. moreResolved Question: Is having my concrete slab professionally stained a good option?
I live in Dallas,tx and I was interested in having my hallway, living room/formal dining room, and kitchen professionally stained. I recently bought an older house (34 yrs) which is built on a concrete slab. I want to get rid of the old berber carpets due to my ongoing allergies. I have seen many different colors and style patterns on stain concrete floors and they are fabulous. I wanted to know if it is expensive or inexpensive to have this done. What is the average cost of this? Will this benefit me if I decide to resale in the future? Should I just stick with flooring such as ceramic or hardwood? moreResolved Question: Cat owners with berber carpets & laminate flooring? ?
Ahh i am sure i will have the usual "if your so worried about furniture then dont get a cat" posts, but i am hoping to just get some honest answers here..And for the record since i got some hate mail after asking my bay window question, i would NEVER declaw a cat..I am just looking for some answers to some questions and some solutions to some things from people who have the same issues... I have owned cats before and never had a problem with them clawing at the rug..I recently had an older cat which i was taking care of and he seemed to love my rugs in the bathroom not to scratch on, just do that nesting motion with his paws... I have Berber carpets in my home and i realized its the same material as scratching posts..For those of you with berber carpets, do your cats seem attracted to your floor to use as a scatching post? Our home was just put with new carpeting when we moved in. We have pergo flooring throughout the home and just the 2 bedrooms and part of the living room has carpeting...I was just curious if cats are attracted to using the berber carpet as a scratchign post... Also, for any reason has your cat scratched up your lamianate flooring? moreResolved Question: What is the best carpet out there?
My parents bought our house two years ago. It was remodeled by the previous owners, and they cut a lot of corners just to sell the house faster. We were unaware of this when we bought it, and we soon found a bunch of mistakes. We have berber carpet in beige. I absolutely hate this carpet and so do my parents. We have three dogs and they track in mud sometimes. It is hard to clean. Plus, my dogs seem to think they can dig through our floors, so they unravelled the berber carpet outside my bedroom door. What is the best carpet for us? Something that cleans well, but is tough enough to last years? What colors do you recommend also? Thank you. Also, can you add a picture or two to show me what carpet you are talking about? moreResolved Question: Soft paws-just how will it affect my cat?
I have two seven month old kittens, one of which is tearing up my berber carpet. I don't know what else to do since I don't want to declaw him other than to try soft paws since cutting and filing his nails doesn't seem to be enough. Just how will soft paws affect his nails? Will he still be able to grab his toys to play with them? Will soft paws effectively keep him from tearing up the carpet? Will there be any problem with the litter in his litterbox getting caught under the nail caps? I want to solve the problem without traumatizing him by a sudden change in his ability to use his claws to play as he is used to. I also want to make sure he is not traumatized especially since at least at first, I only plan on using soft paws with him and not on his more well behaved brother. They have three scratching posts that he does use, he just doesn't seem to understand that the carpet is not a fourth one- which I can understand since the material is similar. moreResolved Question: Oh my horrors! Can you help with this, can anyone possibly?
There is a glue dot stuck in my Berber carpet. I can't get it out. I can't cut it out, because as you well know, Berbers come unraveled if you do that. Oh horrible mess of my life, what am I to do? moreResolved Question: How can you get a chocolate milk stain out of berber carpet?
Water and washing up liquid didn't work. moreResolved Question: Can my landlord charge me for new carpeting in my old apartment if it wasn't new when I moved in? ?
When I moved in my apartment the carpet was in "ok" shape. It had a few burn marks in the front room, some snags and fray's along the seam lines in both bedrooms. I wrote down these details about the carpet in the checklist when I had moved in. Now back to the frays & snags in the seam line in both bedrooms....when I vacuumed the frays got sucked up into the vacuum causing it to run to about a 3 foot stretch. This happened numerous times. So eventually it got to the point to where I couldn't vacuum those areas without creating more runs. So I took it upon myself to cut a square piece of carpet out and replace it with new. Bad Idea! The berber carpet didn't exactly match. Now the areas of carpet that I cut were about a 3 ft x 2 ft area. In both bedrooms. I move out and I get a letter from them with itemized damages for $930 for the carpet. They took pictures obviously of the carpet that I had cut, the burn marks (that were already there), some small snags which very easily happen to berber carpet, and traffic marks at the bottom 3 steps. We had out own private enterance in each unit if you have an upstairs unit. So if you come up the stairs after rain, snow etc. then it's going to create traffic marks. I lived there for 3 years and I dont know when the carpet was replaced before me. So I sent a certified letter disputing the costs of new carpet in the entire unit. I stated I would be happy to pay for damages done in both bedrooms but the carpet in the whole unit should not be replaced at my expense if I have documentation proving that the burn marks were already there. The manager called me today and said they will be sending an invoice for new carpet. I said "you have to pro-rate the life expectancy of the carpet" She stated she was doing what her manager told her to do and they haven't installed the carpet yet but I will be getting an invoice for the new carpet shortly. What should I do next???? Please help! I moved out September 30th. I sent the certified letter within 7 days of their itemized deductions list. What's the next step to get my deposit back? It was a $600 security deposit plus a $200 refundable dog fee. It's not expensive carpet by any means. $0.67/sq ft x 1002 sq ft= $671.00 plus labor. I read in an article Michigan Lanlord Tenant Laws that they can't charge me the full price of the carpet. The fair market value of carpet is usually between 7-10 years for carpet life. Lets say it's 7 for this specific cheap berber carpet costs & it costs $1000 for the whole apartment. I lived there 3 years and it was 2 years old when I moved in. That leaves 2 years of useful life left which means they can only charge me $300 for new carpet. moreResolved Question: What is a good vacuum?
I've had my Dirt Devil bagless for only a few years. It was running just fine before we moved to our new house. Our new house has berber carpet. My vacuum does not move well on this type of carpet with a lot of dragging. What is a smooth flowing vacuum for very low carpet? moreVoting Question: When did Berber (Morrocan) weaving carpets originate?
moreResolved Question: Petzyme has its own odor....How to remove it?
I hope we saturated the carpet sufficiently with Petzyme to remove the cat's urine odor from the padding. Days later I still smell something. It appears to be the same odor of the Petzyme liquid in the bottle. Now how do I get rid of the Petzyme acrid odor in the carpet?? (carpet is berber - not easy to get into the packed loops) Judith moreResolved Question: What type of flooring should I get? ?
We have a one-story, 3 bed 2 bath. There is berber carpet-which i can't stand-in 2 bedrooms, pergo in the master, and vinyl sticky tiles in the kitchen/dining room, bathrooms, and foyer. We have 3 young kids, and 4 inside dogs, 2 big and 2 medium size, who still have accidents (whole other question). Also we live in the east coast where its freezing in the winter and hot and sticky in the summer. Anyway I am considering all options. Please suggest based on your own flooring. Thank you. moreResolved Question: What do I need to know to replace a single pane window with a double pane and other home improvement questions?
I bought a condo in San Diego 3 years ago, I've done minor things to increase the value fans and the like (not too much thought because I bought the place fully upgraded). Minus the window and slider... The window is around 20 years old, single pane, with metal frame, its about 2' x 3'. 1) what do I need to take with me in order to get an accurate cost estimate from home depot or lowes? I want upper middle of the line, not the best not the crap, but maybe a little nicer than the middle. 2) There is Berber carpet in the living room and bedroom, I want to replace the living room with hard wood because there is no AC and I think it would keep it cooler (I live 2 minutes from La Jolla Shores so if you know area you know you only need air 3 weeks a year) But is this a good idea? I live in a really nice area and want to keep my place competitive for the future sale, probably 2 years away; is there anything else I should be looking into for added value? I want to do the window now, then the slider in the spring...but I'm basically flexible, its already got granite, stainless steel appliances, and tavertine, With installation, I'm a female college math professor/single mom...If that gives you any sense...nevertheless I'll pay someone to do it moreResolved Question: What type of carpet should I buy?
I am looking to buy a carpet for my stairs, landing and bedroom. I have seen a nice 100% wool Berber but I'm worried about caring for it. Is it true it's hard to clean and that it can be prone to carpet beetles? moreResolved Question: What should I do about 2 cats with behavioral issues??And its getting worse!!!?
I have one cat he is a big lovable maine coon, and we thought he was acting out and scratching things because he was lonely so we adopted a smaller girl, sh of a schizoid cat but she is starting to warm up to us. However, she is always attacking my sons hamster and she is also highly destructive. We tried to use the soft claws to cap their nails, however between the two of them they have ruined the side and beveling on my oak armoire, scratched up two parts on our new leather couch, destroyed the carpet going into the bedroom (pulled the threads out of the berber) and recently they have started peeing on the beds. At first I let it side but they pooped on my 6 year olds bed, and have peed on my pillows 5 times (just replaced and surprise was waiting when I got home) My main question is, am I a horrible person to find them new homes? I am expecting another baby in February and I can not deal with them peeing in a crib, it is unsanitary and I think they need to go. Is it mean??? My boyfriend and son would also like to find them a new home, any thoughts?????? These cats are very spoiled and well taken of. We have taken them to the vet regularly, they get groomed, and they have been able to pretty much run the house as they see fit, however I am more concerned with the health of my son and new baby then a cat who chooses to relieve themselves on pillows. I do love them and that is why I am asking for advice instead of dumped them at a shelter, which is were I adopted them from. They are both spayed and neutered, they have scratching posts in 3 rooms and two litterboxes which are cleaned twice a day. We are very loving to them the male has been a bit of ahandful all along but he is very loveable and I am extremely upset about this but I have to think of the new baby as well. moreResolved Question: How do I get indentations out of Berber carpet? ?

Thanks for all your help, if you know of any good places! moreVoting Question: What is a good vacuum to pick up hair?

Most of it is gone. I used natures miracle and hot water. but still a smell and some discoloration. The carpet is a beigish berber. What you normally see in apts. I do have vinegar... does that help? Due to the heavy rainfalls this past weekend, our window wells filled up with water and began to leak into our finished basement. We have berber carpet and it was fairly saturated - all over. We rented a high velocity floor fan as well as a Rug Doctor, which has been extracting the water for the past two days. The air is starting to smell, which i take as a very bad sign. We opened all the windows and have had the floor fans on high for the past 2 days...Is there anything else we can do, to save our carpet? what is the ballpark pricing to have ServPro/Restoration SOS come out and dehumidify and finish the water removal? what is the ballpark cost to have ServPro come out? moreResolved Question: I am still having trouble getting stain out of carpet, can you help?

I rent a really great house. My landlord has been terrific about solving the problem but it seems a mystery. We've had inspections for mold and/or moisture and the basement passed. It's finished with berber carpet and paneling. I've tried the Damp Rid crystals, candles, plug in air freshers, the works. She re-did the windows to allow me to open them for venilation and I bought a dehumidifer and air purifier. Still stinks! Has anyone found anything that works??? The carpet and padding are brand new but it's worth a shot. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Need help comparing carpeting!?
My husband and I have two competing carpet bids of roughly the same cost. One is for Mohawk Grammercy Park and the other is for Shaw Perception III---Philadelphia carpet. The Mohawk seems a bit thicker...hard to say. We've made costly errors before. This is for a family room, fairly high traffic and we DON'T want berber as that is what we are replacing--and really despise.
