Bicycle Trailers Questions asked

Resolved Question: Bicycle trailers and British law?

Are there any laws associated with Bicycle trailers that i need to adere to? i have a successful Gardening business and i use a homemade trailer. i think i have most areas covered but i wondered if any new legislation is coming out?  more

Resolved Question: What are some ways to make money using my bicycle and it's trailer?

I need money. I have a bike, a bike trailer, and am making a handlebar pack. How can I make money using these things, and how can I advertise it?  more

Resolved Question: Let me try this again.....?

My husband sells scrap metal for a living. He has some containers that has things like cords, brass, aluminum and copper in them. It was neatly beside the house but out of public view. We had a bag of cans outside by our backdoor in a trash container. We had a table outside that we were planning on hauling off. and a couch by the curb that we were also planning on hauling off. We had a couple of my kids toys in the backyard. We had a plastic outdoor bench in the backyard. We had a trailer that had a little bit of scrap metal in it but not a whole lot. We had 2 bicycles beside the house. We had a bbq grill in front of the house. My husband had tools in a toolbox underneath the trailer because he was working on our vehicle. That is all the stuff we had around our house. Our landlord got a notice to clean up our yard by the code enforcement officer. Our landlord failed to tell us anything. One day we come home and everything is gone. There is some letters taped to our door that said it was a search warrant. It is signed by the judge. All the stuff I mentioned above is taken except the trailer (code enforcement officer said he would have taken it but our truck blocked the trailer in) When asked what is going to happen the code enforcement officer said that they are going to put a lien against the house My question is this... 1.since a majority of that stuff wasn't trash can they legally take it? 2. Do they have to give us a chance to pay it before putting a lien against the house? If so, how long? I am in dallas texas. I do not want to confront the landlord about this, he is a really good landlord. This is NOT side money. My husband sells scrap for a living. He can make 150-200 a day. Can't make that working for Burger King. My main question is.....Do they have to give us a chance to pay it BEFORE putting a lien against the house? If so, then I would rather pay it and be done with it. If you can go figure this one out.... The code enforcement officer issued a ticket to my husband about a broken window. 650.00 ticket. If he can issue the ticket to my husband then he should have issued the warning letter to my husband as well right? I can't allow my landlord to pay the fines. He has been really good to us. If we don't have all the rent there has been times that he said don't worry about it and never brought it up again. I cannot put this on my landlord. Yes they are charging for them obtaining the search warrant and taking everything off the property. What I want to know is if they can automatically place the lien against the property for the amount owed or do they have to give me a chance to pay it first?  more

Resolved Question: can you summarize this for me please?

we have created a number of ways to move ourselves and send products all over the world.there are many kinds of transportation available.alot of people still depend on walking and using animals for transport.in time,we may all be whisked along on moving sidewalks, but right now bicycles, cars, trucks, trains, ships, planes, and pipelines are the major people and/or product movers.in some parts of the worlds, there is great dependence on the bicycle.it is the main means of transportation.millions of people use bicycles to travel to work and other places.bicycles thus create movement patterns that are high in volume but short in range, that is there are a lot of them but you can't travel far.the car has become the most commonly used form of transportation in the western world.it has both short and long range capability.in response to this invention, toads have been built over farmland, across deserts, over (and under) mountains, through forests, and over plains.the desighns of our urban places have been greatly affected by roads.some cities have built ring roads around the city to move people rapidly and avoid the congestion of the core (like Paris and Boston). this tends to keep people out of the downtown area.some interior road patterns are often desighned with curves, crescents, and dead ends, to discourage traffic from residential neighbourhoods.many people who live in quiet areas of the city don't want major roads built near them.for both short and long hauls, huge amounts of freight are moved by trucks.the eighteen wheeler on North American highways is now almost as common as the car.companies building these trucks (like those in Chantham and St.Thomas,Ontario) have become "around-the-clock" operations,in the attempt to keep up with the demand.some trucks pull two trailers,or are outfitted with more axles to carry greater loads.as rail service declines, trucking fills the gap.to accommodate the various vehicles we use, there is a wide range of road systems --- from narrow dirt lanes to complex networks of expressways.since trains can move people and huge loads long distances they are an efficient mode of transportation.the development of railway systems has been very important in the spread of setlement and growth in many countries.in Canada, transcountinental railways moved large numbers of people and great quantities of materials across the continent.this helped to open up new areas and build our nation.today, most Canadian rail traffic is freight, not passenger trains.our large cities use subways,a form of rail transport,to move millions of people daily.they work well over rather short distances where population density is high.As trucking (those eighteen wheelers) increases, rail faces high competition.ships have the ability to move great quantities long distances at low cost.this makes them the cheapest way to move bulky products like cars, wheat,or iron ore all over the globe.thousands of ships travel the world's major shipping routes daily.ship traffic occurs both on inland waterways (rivers and lakes ) and on the oceans.to shorten distances and increase traffic, several major canals were built to permit ship traffic from one ocean to another.the Panama Canal joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.the Suez Canal joins the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.at any moment during a normal day in the air space abot North America, several thousand aircraft are flying.many types of aircraft carry people, mail, and cargo to all points around the globe.most of us are unware of how much we rely on pipelines.every time you get water from a drinking fountrain or flush a toilet, you use a pipeline.we use pipelines to move water, wastes, oil, gas, chemicals, and coal.foods such aas grainds (mixed with a liquid)can be pumped through pipelines.pipelines have the advantage of moving materials continously with little labour involved.the movements are direct from point to point and require little maintenance.the big problem is the cost of installation.large pipelines (up to 120 cm in diameter) move oil in huge quantities.in Canada, our largest pipeline is the Interprovincial Pipeline from Alberta to Ontario.it moves the crude at speeds averaging nearly 16 kilometres per hour.our urban areas have many pipleine patterns within them.there are networkds water, storm sewers, and sanitary sewers running under our cities.commercial enterprises supply our homes with piped natural gas. ok guys i know this is friken hard to summarize but please help me do this =).after you guys summarize this ill choose the best answer.thank you very much =].=).  more

Resolved Question: I've made a trailer for my bicycle occasionally it swerves violently whilst going in a straight line!!!?

How can i stop this happening, it only seems to happen at faster speeds. My guess is it's a weight distribution problem. basically i have a gardening business and wanted to recycle as much as possible to go in hand with the company ethos of being as eco friendly as possible. so far the current trailer project (i have made another already) has only cost me around £5, the main frame is an aluminium wheelchair(disused) two carbon fibre fishing poles join to the bike, and some lengths of alu tent pole are holding it laterally togetgher. i wanted a trailer i could take into back yards through gates etc. this one i can remove both the wheels in seconds ant the whole trailer must only weigh 10-15lb!!! it jus wobbles a bit, i moved the axles back and since it's lost its wobble!  more

Resolved Question: taking dogs on bike ride...?

i have two small dogs and i just bought a bicycle. i want to take them with me somehow, and they can't walk alongside me because i might run them over and their little legs can't go that fast. so i've looked into different things, one is an enclosed trailer that attaches to your back wheel and pulls along behind the bike. i can put both dogs in this. another is a basket that sits on your handlebars and the dog has a harness or leash that keeps the dog from jumping out. i can only take one dog at a time with the basket. they are both specially made for dogs. which do you recommend?  more

Resolved Question: Is it possible to only buy the frame of a bicycle a company sells as a complete bike?

I'm looking for a bicycle frame so that I can build a bike up from the ground. It's basically just for the fun of it, but I do want to build a nice bike that I will use -- mainly for commuting and riding around town with the kids, sometimes pulling a trailer. I already have a Del Sol comfort hybrid and I really enjoy that geometry. So I am looking for similar types of frames but all the major companies' websites only show full bikes, not just the frames. Is it always possible to buy the frame of a bike that a company sells as a complete bike? Do you have a website that you can recommend for good prices on bike frames or equipment?  more

Resolved Question: Bicycle trailer?

I am looking into getting a bicycle. But I have had a long time problem with bikes in that they don't haul much gear, I like a lot of cargo room. I recently saw one of those baby stroller/trailer/carriage device a man was pulling behind a bicycle and I think that is what I need. I looked online... these things are like 300-600 dollars! Isn't there one that is more like 60 or less? All they are is some fabric and some plastic/steel/aluminum right? Anything more than like 80 bucks seem totally unreasonable to me. Where can I g t one for a more reasonable price? Do I need I certain type of bicycle to use one of these? Also, do all bikes accept those baskets on the handle bars? I want one of those too.... I like cargo space... lots of cargo space. Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: Why our commutes and traffic is more snarled(another reason)...?

In a given space, when we have larger trucks/SUV’s and passenger cars which have grown much longer and larger, it’s a given that in the same amount of space, there will be more congestion. This is the 800-lb elephant no-one has tied to heavier traffic. Look at it this way…if we all drove semi’s with trailers, traffic would be much worse. If we all drove Bicycles, traffic would be much less (and neither of these scenarios will ever happen). Just watch a movie from the 80’s showing people on the freeway versus now. You would think half of America now hauls manure for a living or helps their friend to move every weekend. I need a new car in about six months…should I get a Smart Car or an H-2?  more

Voting Question: I am a physically active but overweight male in my 40's. If I lose 60 lbs. will the loose skin go away?

I'm 44. I have a large frame. I'm 6'2 and weigh 300#. I ride my bicycle 100 miles a week and work hard in a FL tractor/trailer garage for hrs., often outworking smaller, trimmer, people. I know I eat too much. I have a "beer belly" and flabby chest.I'm strong. My arms, legs, and "butt" are toned, not flabby. I've been up and down the weight roller-coaster, It seems as though that about every ten yrs., I've gotten down to 220-230. I'll get to the question: Do you eventually lose the extra skin if you maintain your weight? I'm tired of having a gut and "man-boobs". Is surgery the answer? How do people in TV ads, who were sedentary, lose hundreds of lbs. and show up in bikinis and trunks with no loose skin. Even now, I don't feel that my appearance matches my lifestyle. I'm a lonely hypocrite; I 'm not attracted to women who even look like couch potatoes, but my flabby body puts me in the same boat. If I lose 80# will the skin shrink or is it Male breast reduction/tummy tuck?  more

Resolved Question: Transporting motorcycles 1000 miles?

Resolved Question: Who else thinks those bicycle "trailers" for babies are stupid and dangerous?

Just wondering, it seems like most parents think the world should be made of sponges for their child's safety, but have no problem putting them in one of those enclosed mesh "trailers" that attach to the back of your bike and can be towed along. If they stuck to the park, etc., then fine. BUT I see so many parents riding down fairly busy roads in the bike lane with these things and it just seems so dangerous. It could become attached and baby could fly into traffic (no matter what safety precautions it has), there could be a traffic accident right by you and something could fly off and hit baby, or someone could just plain not see you or be driving poorly and hit you. Why would anyone think it's safe thing to do ? I would never put my child in one of those and ride into traffic! It just seems like a very bad idea. What's your opinion? I meant unattached, oops  more

Resolved Question: Is it realistically possible to braze steel using a standard propane torch?

Is it realistically possible to braze steel using a standard propane torch? Have any of you brazed something like a bicycle or a bicycle trailer, that has to take a conciderable amount of abuse, using just a propane torch and the standard tip? I have gotten metal red hot using just a propane torch and a standard tip (a tip that might be used to solder copper pipes together) , Whether that was hot enough to braze with is the question. If propane is hot enough to braze with are there any tips you may have to reduce the amount of propane used and to strenghten the brazed area.  more

Resolved Question: Is it Legal in Maine to pull a Bicycle trailer without registering the trailer?

I've a bike trailer (Master Cycle from Walmart). I wonder if it's legal to use in Maine without insurance, registration and etc. The corollary to this question is if trailers must be registered and insured then one cannot use such an ambulatory aid to help with disabilities if one cannot for any reason pay child support (but especially due to being a "retard" - due to being shot by police and having survived such an unprovoked attack by drunken, stoned but "fully conservative" cops, and thus not "eligible" by "natural law" to statutory waivers of child support Liability)!!!! Why? Child support preempts all other transactions (especially child support ordered payed to a dead spouse, killed by said drunken, stoned but nonetheless fully righteous conservative cops following the support Contras by selling dope order of the then President Ronald Reagan and get off Scot free by preemptive pardon issued all who thus kill liberals in the commission of such fund raising even as innocent collateral damage as after all it's a Ronald Reagan Revolution, hey, it's war man)! See: Kill the Messenger by Schuo (sic)! Yes, of course, as a "deadbeat dad" by farcical "court finding", of divorce to a woman dead nearly ten years at divorce signing, a deadbeat dad would be pulling his own weight by bicycle, rather than "illegally driving a car", and wasting valuable SUV fuel resources that conservatives "so desperately need" that they will place "liberals" in jail and work them to death to "conserve". After all, over 126,000 are killed or maimed on bicycles each year; running over a "biker" is even more fun (especially when the conservative cop blames the 'biker') than I'm told running over an economy-car is while racing to go pheasant hunting with Dick. So, wild (IRA?) guy, is it your finding that Maine highway "law" trumps Title II (which is Federal Law...by Our Constitution we are obliged to follow Federal Law)??? Or is there a specific (IRA type?) Judge or group of Judges I (we) should be trying to get tossed off the bench for Judicial Malpractice (do you actually know of such case law?)  more
