Open Question: Removal of a 1978 Ford Thunderbird Blower Motor?

My boyfriend is is fixing up a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. He is currently replacing the Blower Motor, the problem is that he is having difficulty getting the old one out to put in the new one. He can get it to move so far out, but then it won't come out anymore because it hits the wall and there is no way he can wiggle it out. He could take the wall out or apart, but the issue there is that it was put together by the manufacturer and would basically be impossible for him to put back together. He wants to do this himself, anyone have any ideas?Advice? Just throw out an ideas or experiences you've had. more

Open Question: Rheem burners will not ignite?

Hello, I have a Rheem Criterion II about 15 years old. Down Draft Furnace I just replaced the blower motor and it works great. The problem is when I fire up the furnace the blower comes on the ignite r glows and than just when the burners should ignite the system stops? The green lights on the circuit board flash? then it starts the cycle all over again and never lights the burners? What am I missing? Thanks for your help more

Open Question: '84 Dodge B250. Heater doesn't blow air thru vents but the A/C does. Resistor fix'd spd control, not on heat?

I replaced resistor that did fix the setting of speeds on a/c however it does not work on the heater. I hear it blowing but no hot air thru front vents. Defroster seems to work ok. Is there a door/ flap that is operated by a vacuum? Van has less that 70k miles. I tried replacing the blower motor speed switch before resistor but it made no difference. How do I get to it (vacuum hose or door). Not listed in manual. Thank you for your time! : ) It does blow hot air out when on vent, and no indications that the thermostat is inoperable. Van runs cool. more

i got a craftsman snowblower model # 536.918200 i take it it was from the 70's or 80's motor runs great but problem is the shaft between blower and gearbox moves about a 1/2 inch the auger still turns by hand but not lever looking for a possible reason best answer gets 10 pionts and yes the handle on handle bars are hooked up and belt tensioner does move when ingauging and also belt is good how can it be worn bearing i turn pulley and auger moves more

ok so my heat in my 93 sentra used to work really great. last week it just stopped working. i tested the blower motor out of the car, it worked fine. i replaced the blower resistor, still no heat. the blower motor fuse is fine. now when i switch it to the highest fan speed, something starts making a very quiet tumbling noise. so im pretty sure the switch is working too because the noise goes away when the switch is off. 12v is going to the motor. what else can it be? more

Open Question: I have a 94 honda prelude, hot days, won't start. ?

My cooling fans do not turn on, but car does not overheat unless at stop for a few seconds. Blower motor does not work, and ac compressor is locked up. Heater control on the dash, none of the lights work, and when buttons are pressed, nothing lights up there either. i have done research i have replaced fuel pump do to thinking it was really the problem when it wouldn't start, but obviously it is the main relay. what i don't think is that the main relay because the lights on the hearter control do not come on, even though it has to go through not only the main relay, but the computer as well. there is twelve volts at all outside and inside fuses, and no fuses are broken. Honda's have problems obviously. any guesses, besides what i have mentioned? more

I had the thermal fuse pop twice within the last month. The 1st time I was told it was due to the motor which was changed. Now the fuse just popped again. Suspecting the fan unit now but would like to know the best way to trouble shoot. Any ideas? more

My 1997 Ford Escort's blower motor won't work. It won't turn on at any speed setting, i tried a/c, heat, nothing will turn on what can be the problem? PLEASE HELP IT'S SO COLD IN CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!! It actually turned on for a little bit but when i turned the car off It would work again. There was no problems before. Is there anyway of testing it? I have a 1998 Buick Rivera 3.8l Supercharged. Recently the blower to my a/c stopped working. I consulted with someone one had the same issue in a different GM vehicle & they recommended that I change the blower motor. I changed the blower motor & I'm still having the same issues. I consulted with someone in the auto parts store & they recommended that it sound like it may be a blower switch. My question is what should I look it to changing before I spend more money on parts that do not need changing? more

I've got the fuse door open (on the passenger side) and removed the screw and was able to get the center part of the dash apart. Behind it was 3 screws which I removed then found that there are 2 rivets holding that piece in. But the blower motor looks like it has to be accessed from the top section of the dash. more

I removed te glove box and I have three mod boxes I am not sure which one contains the motor. From L to R its black box, white box, black box which box is it?. And someone asked about the relay for the motor, is that on the driver or pass side kick panel? gary thanks got the relay but it did not have anything about the blower location I have a chiltons but its no help, is the motor in the white box? more

Resolved Question: Cadillac Brougham heater issues!?

I have an 89 Cadillac Brougham. 307 v8 vin code Y. I recently had the blower motor, and a/c control module replaced in the car. My problem is that I still dont think the controls are functioning properly. On the dash control panel I have the temp adjusters, economy, fan low, auto, fan high, and defrost. The issue I'm having is when I turn the car on.... even after I let it warm up to operating temp... I can only get the heater to start blowing if I put it on defrost first. After I get the fan to start blowing, then I can switch to economy, or auto, etc.... In other words, if the car is turned off, when I restart it, I get nothing from the vents untill I let the fan spool up on defrost. This can't be the way they work right? I just dumped a ton of $$ on the module and fan and it should be working correctly! more

Open Question: does pushing in the contactor on a heat pump basically bypass all the relays?

I had a tech troubleshoot my heat pump, but I didn't let him finish the job because he was going to charge an arm and a leg (wanted $280 for the transformer alone, I bought a better one for $30). Anyway, he told me that one of the relays was bad. So now with the transformer installed, I have 24v to thermostat, the blower motor comes on, but the condenser fan and compressor don't engage unless I push the contactor in manually. I think the compressor does work because it seemed that the the pipe is getting cold, so I guess what I'm asking is that if I push in the contactor manually then the unit should basically function even if the relays might be bad? more

Voting Question: My furnace keeps blowing its fuse...now what?

My furnace has blown its 6 1/4 amp fuse three times in the past two weeks. The fuse is in its own box located right by the furnace. The blower motor spins the fan via belt. The bearings aren't making any noise. I do not want to pay for a professional to take a look if there is any chance I can identify and replace the damaged component myself. I have a multimeter and very limited electrical knowledge. How can I troubleshoot this problem and determine what is causing the fuse to burn out? Its hard to tell when the fuse blows, as it has only happened three times in two weeks, while running about 50% of the time. This is a gas furnace, and I have used a time delay fuse. I can turn the fan motor on and off all day, and it won't blow the fuse, so I assume it is not caused by the motor turning on. All three times, it has happened overnight; when it is the coldest outside, and when the thermostat is turned down ten degrees lower. I have no idea if this is useful information. Also, filter is clean. more

Heater Discription: Unscrew what looks like a cap from an old gas help can, If you decide not to take the cap off, There are screws around the cap when you remove the screws, you can get more room to light the pilot. When the pilot is lit you replace the screws and you can see the light through the transparent glass cap, now its safe to raise the thromast tempreture guage and wait for the heater motor to kick in or go on. Why is it that when the heater motor and blower comes on at the same time the furnace fire goes out every time, And what can be done to correct the problem. more

HELP !!!!!!!! I have a Janitrol natural gas furnace. It’s approximately 11 years old. I noticed a malfunction in the furnace but I don’t know what’s wrong. When the thermostat calls for heat the inducer motor run. Then the burners ignite and run for 5 seconds and then shut off. At that time, the blower motor is still off. After a while, the burners re-ignite and blower motor is on (sometimes it’s still off). Even the blower motor is on or off, the burners also shut off after 5 seconds. They keep doing so couple times and the whole thing shut down (inducer motor, burner, blower motor). Please help me. I’m in the winter now. more

Voting Question: Suddenly, when I start my vehicle with the command start, the heater blower motor does not start anymore. Why?

I just recently had a new blower motor put in, and a few weeks later this happened. Now I can still start the vehicle with the command start, but have to go put a key into it for the heater to start blowing. I still have a few days left on the "30 days parts and labour" from when I got the blower motor put in and am wondering if it is possibly a bad install on that? A couple of days ago, the heater on my Pontiac Grand AM stopped working. I would turn on the heater, and nothing would come out of the vent. I didn't hear any fans turn on, and I can't feel much heat coming out of the vent. This problem remained consistent no matter what setting I put it on. Based on what I have read, it is either the Heater Blower Motor, or the Heater Core that isn't working. Or it might be something else. Someone suggested that it might be in my best interest to try to fix this myself. Are there any links or diagrams that show how to replace either of these parts? Any other suggestions and advice would be appreciated! more

Im just going to list everything that has happened this time and hopefully someone who knows what they are doing could help. - Blower Motor is fine - No wire shorts - Blower Motor Resistor is fine - actual switch is fine - everything is plugged in - The heat is working the blower just isnt blowing the heat. This is on a 94 ford aspire, thanks to anyone who can help, i cant see out my window because its winter here and it keeps fogging my windsheild up. - There is no air coming out below the windsheild - I dont have A/C Because the car didnt come with it when i bought it 16 yrs ago haha. - The fuse is fine, just checked it. more

Hey, 1999 GMC Safari Van. When the key is turned off the blower fan remains on. The controls inside don't change the speed either, it stays on high. The only way to stop it is to unplug the blower motor. It completley drains the battery if left plugged in. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks Ok So its the relay but cannot seem to find out what the name of the relay is. Went to the part store today and all that came up was a generic relay which this is clearly not. i have a 79 elcamino, with an 87 transam motor(305, v-8) switched to carb. from tune port. i want to switch my air intake to a shotgun blower intake, but i cant find anythign under $340, anyways...i can afford to pay for it eventually, but my real issue is that with the diff. engine, i have a clearance problem from the engine to the hood, being that if i hooked it up direct, it wouldnt be high enough to stick up from the hood, (going to cut out premarked section of the hood over carb) but, does anyone have a suggestion on how to remedy the situation??? more

my gas furnance goes thru the start up process all the way to ignition and burning. Problem is that the blower doesn't come on and 20 seconds after ignition the system shuts down as designed. any tips for determining if my blower motor is bad or could it be the capacitor or relay attached to the outside of the blower housing? Plz help It's an older unit - about 10 years old. THANKS for all the help. I found the control board to be bad. After testing the relay and capacitor good I found the board not ouputing the needed 110v to the fan terminals.
