Brush Chippers Questions asked

Resolved Question: This isn't exactly the correct category, but I guess it's atleast an outdoorsy type question.?

I won't go into any detail as to why I'm asking this, just sort of curious. I'm curious though as to how big of a pile does chipped up limbs make when you put then thru a wood chipper. Is the pile generally larger than you'd think, or smaller than you'd think in comparison to the size of the brush pile? lol...no...nothing like that. Just wasn't relevent to the question. Thinking about starting a part time job this spring chipping up limbs and branches that people cut in my city. The city won't pick them up so I think I could make some extra $ doing it for them for a fee. I'm then just leave the chips with the customer to either use, or sit out with their normal trash. The city won't pick them up as "limbs" because they are just too bulky and fill the trucks up too fast. Not to mention risk of getting the city workers eyes poked with the branches. (insurance purposes).  more

Resolved Question: Mother in Law / Husband Problem!? Help! (Sorry it's long!!)?

Someone please give advice about what I should do here.. I'm not going to type the entire story about what happened because it's LONG. However, myself and my husband have had lots of problems with his mother our entire relationship (only 3 1/2 years.) Before you get the wrong idea we have ALWAYS respected her and never treated her badly -- just stood our ground with what we knew was right about raising our son. Needless to say, about a month and a half ago we stopped speaking to her, period. She said some EXTREMELY hurtful things to the both of us in an e-mail. About 2 weeks into this, she called my husband and apologized, then invited him over. He said that he wasn't going to come over without me and that she owed me an apology as well. She said "I know.. I will apologize to her I'll just give her a couple days." 2 1/2 weeks go by. He has not seen his mother, and has only talked to her a couple of times for about 2 minutes each call. She texted me today, asking me to call her when I was done work. My husband and I knew that this meant she was going to apologize. I didn't want to talk to her, I'm still very upset (she has caused us a LOT of grief...) but I knew that the mature thing to do would be to call her and listen to her apology, and at least thank her for it. I call her back. This was our conversation: Her: "Hello." (Bad tone of voice.) Me: "Hey, sorry I couldn't call earlier I was working late..." Her: "That's fine, I just wanted to say I'm glad we're talking again, I missed talking to you." Me: "Yeah.." (thinking this is a liason into an apology..) Her: "Now that that's out of the way... Dave (her husband) and I are going up to the beach..." etc etc etc. Her voice IMMEDIATLEY got all chipper now that that was "out of the way" and she just started rambling on like she always does, being all fake with me. I made an excuse about 2 minutes in and said I had to go. She invited us to dinner next week, I said I'd let her know and hung up. My husband and I are both BAFFLED and HURT that she didn't apologize to me and is trying to skirt this over. I feel like she only wants to even TRY to skirt things over with me so she can have her relationship with her son back. What do we do?!? Neither of us want to pretend like nothing happened, because we both feel I am owed an apology and she shouldn't get away with how she treated me. He wants to confront her. However, I feel like if we do, she will apologize fakely, even though she doesn't mean it, just so that my husband will be okay with her. I'm scared to confront her, and I don't want to ask for an apology. I feel like if she wanted to apologize she would have by now, and CERTAINLY wouldn't be just brushing it off like she did. I wanted to e-mail her and just explain that I'm uncomfortable with the situation and will not be coming to dinner. He said that if I'm going to say anything to her at all I should call her and say it, or he will do it for me but no e-mail. I'm scared to DEATH of the confrontation by calling her. I also feel like if we have to say anything to her that any apology I get (if I even get one) will be fake. That's not acceptable to me, and I'm just really not wanting to be okay with her right now. I don't want to be all buddy buddy with her and I don't want to go hang out at her house and be all social and crap.. I'm just not comfortable. She was a constant stress factor in my life and I don't know how to deal with the situation. I don't want to put a wall up between myself and my husband over this though.. that's by far the most important thing to me in this situation. He said he backs me no matter what I decide to do, but I worry that eventually this will cause a hole to be found in our relationship and our marriage will suffer for it if I don't just forgive her.. but I feel like I can't get all close with her again because of the stress it puts on me. Literally it's so bad that when she calls I shake and I get all upset and nervous to even pick up the phone! (My husband also gets very stressed by her.. it's rough.) He did say that if we could never get along he would always feel a sadness inside and he wouldn't be happy, but he doesn't want me to just fake it with her for his sake.. he wants me to do what makes me happy. Please give me advice!! And once again, sorry it's so long. :( I just don't want issues in my marriage because I can't get along with his Mom!! Our son still visits with her. I don't care what kind of issues I have with her, that's my son's grandmother and I will not just abruptly cut her from his life after she's been there the past 8 years -- that is unless of course she did something out of line to him. Just wanted to make that clear. Thanks for all the great answers so far.. but a question. To those of you saying I don't need to be her friend and I can visit as little as possible -- how do I handle that? We used to see them like every couple weekends, and if I just start not going it's going to cause issues.  more

Resolved Question: What do you think???

Sorry for reposting this writing again but the first time i posted it, it was at 3 o-clock A.M. and only like 2 people answered. I'm hoping to get more opinions and views this time. So plz give me advice and all that other good stuff. Btw I'm 12 but love critisism XD. Thanx!!! 7th Grade=New Beginnings By: Sara Thorpe Chapter 1: Same School Different Year It was 12:00 A.M. and Nicole still hadn't fallen asleep. She stared at the T.V. flipping the channels, finally settling on a cooking show, but decided to mute it anyway. After a minute of buzzing silence, she flipped open her enticing book and got caught up in a few chapters. Setting the book down was hard, due to the suspense, but the clock was ticking away loudly as if to remind her that she needed to get some rest. Unfortunately, she still felt wide awake. Crisp air flowed through her room. This felt good on her sweating body. The clock now read 12:45 A.M. She closed her eyes and tried to relax herself to sleep. She almost gave up, but suddenly exhaustion hit her out of nowhere. “Honey, wake up,” Nicole’s mom whispered in a surprisingly chipper voice. “Ugh, five more minutes,” Nicole managed to mumble. She couldn’t understand how her mom was so pleasantly happy this early in the morning. Suddenly five minutes was up and her feet slowly maneuvered their way onto the ground. Dizziness swept over as she rubbed her tired eyes. Thankfully, buttermilk waffles awaited her on the kitchen counter. Cold milk slowly ran down her throat after the last bit of waffle was gone. Feeling more awake now, she quickly walked to her small room. The walls were painted an ocean blue, with the occasional pictures placed on them. The closet door opened slowly until Nicole could view herself in the mirror. Her hair was very knotted as if she rolled over constantly in her sleep. She then peered at the various clothes that filled her closet. The black skinny jeans and studded belt were grabbed immediately. She then finally decided on a t-shirt that she favored from all the others. Then, bouncing and thumping could be heard from the room all the way to the kitchen. Nicole was pulling up her extremely tight skinny jeans. Her jeans were putting up a good fight but she soon prevailed. Next came her shirt and a few accessories, which didn’t take long at all. “Come on hurry up Cody! You’ve been in the bathroom forever, I’m tired of waiting.” “Ok, ok, ok,” chanted Cody as he stepped out from the bathroom. “I’m out, are you happy now?” “Yea, took you long enough,” replied Nicole with a smirk on her face. Her and her brother always did these little fights once in awhile. They both amused themselves with their comebacks and almost found it to be a game now that Cody is sixteen and Nicole is twelve. “Well whatever, go comb your hair you look like a troll doll.” “Shut up,” she said with a giggle slipping through her words. The bathroom was full of steam that made the air thick and hard to breath. Nicole didn’t want to stay in there too long. She freshened up a little, but the main focus was her hair. She stared herself in the face, noticing all the imperfections. All the zits seemed 2 stand out so bluntly on her not pretty, but not ugly face. Ignoring them was the only thing she could do at the moment. She focused all her attention back on her hair. The brush tackled its way through the frenzy of knots. Her arm muscles began to scream of pain and her arms seemed more buff than when she started. Soon she was pleased with her hair. The beauty of the dirty blonde hair, mixed with pink and black streaks was hard to deny. The black converse were then placed on her petite feet and the strings tied with perfection, as if they were going to be judged. In Nicole’s eyes she felt that the first day of school was a big day of judgment. Judgment of character, personality, and style. Everything had to be right in order to make a good impression and not start off the new school year in an awful way. The clock read 7:30 A.M. which meant there was still a half an hour until she would meet up with Alyssa, her best friend, at school. That half an hour was now up and Nicole was staring at the cold prison called school through her mom’s car window. Alyssa was waiting for her just a few feet ahead. A smile came abroad her face and she quickly pecked her mom on the cheek. As her converse hit the cement pavement, she felt trapped and isolated as if there was no freedom like there was during the summer. ‘Hey, guess who I just bumped into,” Alyssa said anxiously. “Who, Matt?” Nicole guessed. “No, I wish,” chuckled Alyssa. “I bumped into Brianna. She’s so snobby.” “Yea don’t even remind me about her. I’m trying to erase her out of my memory.” Sudden flash backs of Brianna and her popped into her head. Her face began to feel hot as she was fighting back tears. She told herself she was not going to cry. The feelings slowly vanished as Alyssa started cracking jokes to lighten up the mood. She didn’t know what she would do without Alyssa to make her laugh when things seemed so awful. She erased the thoughts from her head and focused on jokes. Alyssa’s face started turning red as she was gasping for air. The laughter was too much for Alyssa and her to handle so they calmed down a bit. Students were starting to stare questioningly at their strange behavior. Alyssa boldly stared right back as Nicole tried to hold back laughter once again until she saw Brianna. She stared until Brianna looked back in an angry way. Her head snapped around to avoid eye contact with her ex best friend. “What’s wrong?” Alyssa questioned noticing the look and actions of her friend. “Nothing, I’m fine.” No one spoke for a full minute after that. Their eyes wandering the crowd of seventh graders. “So, have you seen Matt yet, aka your true love,” Nicole said jokingly. “Oh shut up and no not yet.” “Oh, well you might see-” Suddenly the shrieking school bell rang drowning the rest of her words out. The screeching sound irritated her ears and she noticed Alyssa’s face cringe. They both started walking to the crowd of students, all fighting their way through to small doors. They eventually squeezed in and Nicole felt her black converse hit the floor of the school. She wasn’t a small, weak, little sixth grader anymore she thought to herself. She was now a seventh grader. This year was going to be a new beginning.  more

Resolved Question: What do u think of my writing so far???

I'm writing a short story cuz i find it fun 2 do when your bored XD. Plz read it (the writing below obviously) and tell me if its good. Mind you i'm 12 its based on the future of my life hopefully sumthing like that. O and plz give me advice if you could. Anything would be great. Thankiez!!! 7th grade=new beginnings It was 12:00 P.M. and Nicole still hadn't fallen asleep. She stared at the T.V. flipping the channels finally settling on Home Improvement. She couldn't stand watching T.V. anymore so decided to get out her book and read a chapter. Nicole still felt wide awake. The crisp night air came in through her window and she felt the chill hit her body. This felt nice on her sweating body. She looked at the clock again to see it was now 12:30 P.M. So she listened to escape the fate and drifted off to sleep... “Honey wake up,” Nicole’s mom said in a chipper voice. “Ugh, five more minutes,” Nicole replied in a mumble/moan type voice. Five minutes felt more like five seconds, but she knew she had to get up. Smelling waffles brought a smile to her face even though she was in a pretty cranky mood. Five more minutes passed and all that was left on the plate was a few drops of syrup. A puzzled look came over to Nicole’s face as she stared into her closest. Her first day of school outfit had to express her style and personality. She looked at the Abbey Dawn skirt, matching shirt/tie, and black skinny jeans. A great outfit, but maybe too dressy she thought. She then looked over at the red skinny jeans, DC shirt, and her favorite sweatshirt she had gotten at the thrift store. She decided to go with the dressier outfit in the end because of the great style and the smile it brought to her face because she knew she would be different from everyone else. She put the outfit on and grabbed her black converse that she adored. Now she looked at her hair in the mirror. What used to be dirty-blond hair was now beach blond with black and pink steaks in it. She thought her new hair was so awesome. Nicole then gave it a quick comb admiring its beauty. Now all she had to do was brush her teeth. Just as she grabbed the tooth brush there was a knock on the bathroom door. “What?” Nicole called. “I need to use the bathroom, come on I’m not going to wait all day,” replied her brother, Cody, who’s voice sounded not that cranky, yet not that chipper like her mom’s. She carried her toothbrush and what not to her room and finished up using the mirror in her room, that was connected to her closet door. Nicole checked the clocked to see that she still had an hour to spare! She called her best friend, Alyssa, and talked for awhile. The time flew by. Before Nicole knew it, she was in the car with her best friend, being driven by her mom to school. Nicole placed her black converse on the hard cement ground that was school property. She felt as if she was being controlled again and had no freedom like she did during summer. She saw her ex best friend and gave a little smile. Instead of smiling back she grimaced and turned the other way. Nicole shrugged. Alyssa and her started walking to the 7th grade entrance while passing by bigger and smaller students. Nicole spotted some sixth graders and could see the fear in there eyes. She remembered feeling that way her first day of middle school, but now her and Alyssa are in 7th grade and it would be a new beginning. She knew it. The bell suddenly rang and they stepped inside. The crowd was horrible and Nicole and Alyssa got stuck in the middle. Alyssa managed to work her way out, but Nicole was still struggling to free herself from the stampede. As she was squirming around, she caught sight of a boy her age and height. His hair was jet black and had red tips. His bang covering one eye. Nicole stopped squirming and just starred at him in amazement. She couldn’t look away. He then caught sight of her. They both broke free from the crowd at the same time and bumped into each other. Nicole felt her face turn bright red. “Oh sorry, my name is Nathan,” the boy said in a shy voice, but had a smile spread across his face. “Oh its ok, my name is Nicole,” she said while gently touching his arm. “Come on Nicole, we’re going to be late. You to can catch up later,” Alyssa said with eagerness deep within her voice. “Well, I’ll see you later hopefully,” she said as Alyssa started tugging at her book bag. “Ok peace,” he said while holding the peace sign up and his smile slowly fading as we were distanced from one another. Resolved Question: Which is greener, gas-powered brush chipper or burn it.?

I've got a 10 hp chipper/shredder thats makes quick work of lots of brush that I have to clear. I probably will go through quart of gas to chip the average size pile ( 300 lbs? ) that I used to burn. The mulch is reused. I got it thinking I could reduce my CO2 footprint, but looking at the gasoline usage, I am not confident. I also spread the ash into the soil. Any ideas, guesses or sources of info? Kirchway, Thanks for the answer, but have you considered the CO2 released getting the gasoline into the chipper. I seem to recall (vaguely) reading that there is a 20lb/gallon load total well to automobile. I don't think my 10 HP is as efficient.  more
