Resolved Question: How do you halter train an 8 month old weanling w/o dam?
I just acquired an 8 month old red dun quarter horse filly who hasn't been handled much at all. She was fed off a truck in a pasture. We picked her up, had her previous owner put a halter on her in a cattle chute and shooed her into the trailer. She is now at a boarding barn in a stall, halter still on. I can clean the stall and she isn't afraid of any of the tools, the bucket, tossing shavings at her, or the shavings bag. She doesn't even jump at lound noises. My problem isn't a problem horse, its just that I've never had to halter train a blank slate-minded baby without its dam to help. She is large for her age (wearing a yearling halter already on 2nd notch) and is very strong. I don't want her halter training to be a fight. I need to train her to catch and lead as soon as possible because the owner of the barn doesn't want her to go out the pasture if she can't lead or be caught. I forgot to mention that this barn does not have a round pen and I do not have a horse to pony her off of. All I've got to work with is her 12 X 12 stall and an indoor riding arena that I have to LEAD her to in order to get into it ;o) A few more details.... I am just now getting her used to touch. She does not yet understand touch as a reward. She doesn't know that treats are food and refuses to eat them. What a poor neglected thing! Thank you for the info so far... I can customize most of it to my situation. Keep the tips n tricks coming if you have any! moreResolved Question: Why are horse trailers nicely enclosed with windows and doors, probably heating and A/C, but not for cattle?
It just ain't fair. Cattle trailers are open to the elements, just board racks around the perimeter of the trailer. They have to face the wind, rain, cold and snow as they are being hauled off to their doom. They're stuffed into those trailers, butt to nose. Its a sad sight to see those poor critters being trucked down the highway. They look out from the trailer with those big sad eyes, like as if they know where they are going; they're not happy, I tell ya. Texan, I also live in cattle country; my father and his brother raised cattle. I was just making a silly observation not trying to justify some kind of "cause". moreResolved Question: Ready for another episode of the Yahoo Answers dating game? Hereeeeeeee we go....?

http://i37.tinypic.com/n38674.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/21lohl0.jpg I'm planning on purchasing a horse in the near future and this guy is one of the many on my list. Cholo is a 5 year old, 16.1h, black & gray Thoroughbred gelding. The owner has used him for jumping and trail riding. He's been around cattle and been in town. He was used for a beginner lessons with flat work, ground rails and cross rails. He has been free jumped at a 4' level and the owner only went to the 2' and 3' levels on him. He could do more if you asked. Cholo has been hauled all over Alberta and BC and was the same horse going in the trailer and coming out. He's very calm and has never acted like a TB at any event. He can be ridden bareback and is just the same with tack as without. He has no vices, and it UTD on all his shots and deworming and shoes. Please tell me what you think about him. ie.) conformation, colors, etc.. moreResolved Question: Dumb Blonde Joke(no offense). the first person with the right answer will get the best answer 10pts.?

Now all she needed was a cattle trailer, so she went to a telegram place to send her BLONDE sister a telegram to bring the cattle trailer. each word in the telegram cost 1 dollar exactly. she was sitting there trying to think of the one word to send so her sister would know to come. what do you think the word was and why? My sister was in a wrech yesterday and is worried about her insurance and who's insurance would have to pay for who. (she was going at least 45 and slammed her breaks so hard that her back end lifted) well my sis slammed on her breaks and did not hit the women, but the man behind my sis slammed into the back of her and caused her to hit the women in front twice (he had a cattle trailer on his truck, which caused him to hit my sis twice as well) now the women is saying my sis hit her before the man hit my sis. In the movie there is a semi truck with a cattle gaurd on it and there is a chase scene during the movie between the truck and a van I think. I know at the very ending theough when a lady is cleaning the inside of the trailer, she looks up and pulls a cord, which makes a head fall out of the top of the trailer. moreResolved Question: Need tips on loading youngster onto trailer?
I have to load my 2 1/2 year old TBX onto a trailer on the 1st. The last time he was on a trailer he was loaded onto a cattle truck and was slaughter bound (rescued). He may surprise me and walk right on, but all the same any advice? I have to rent the trailer so practicing isn't an option. moreResolved Question: What is the best equipment & truck to start a profitable, car hauling, horse transport & rigging business?
Hi everyone, we are suffering from this horrible dump truck industry in Florida & even though we are surviving, we see the work diminishing to almost no work whatsoever. I am the logistics coordinator for our family operated dump truck business & also the daughter to a dedicated trucker. We are interested in starting a new business that can be well rounded & long term, staying strong through an economy like what we are currently living with today. We hear hauling used cars, exotics, race cars, antiques, motorcycles, horses & cattle can be a profitable business anywhere in this nation. We are still learning & still doing research, to guide us into a profitable long term business. We are calling car hauling brokers & getting positive feedback. We are honest & devoted workaholics. We are at the purchasing stage & would like some advice & suggestions on what type of truck to get including: what size, brand/model, trailer & other additionals. I would appreciate any advice, thank you so much! moreResolved Question: How much is my horse worth (please answer) please tell me your location or state?
I need to know how much my horse is worth. He is a 7/8 Arab 1/8 saddlebred (national show horse) 14.3 hands 15 years old with no medical problems clammest horse every (see pic links) registered half arab does cattle sorting, eventing, pleasure, jumping, trail rides, parades, showmanship, pony club, 4-H, all around, lbya, competed and placed at National shows, safe around kids, livestock, has given lessons, is ground safe, very flashy, great feet, trailer safe, can be washed, no vices, located in colorado kid safe: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Arrow1321/otherstuff097.jpg under saddle: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u199/Arrow1321/arrownwss.jpg moreResolved Question: mounting and riding questions plus something odd....?
When I tack up my horse, I loop a lead rope through on the trailer...it isn't even tied off. He will stand totally still to be saddled, bridled & mounted. As soon as that rope comes off of the trailer, he starts moving so I can't mount.Thoughts on this? Today I took him for a ride & there is a chance of t-storms. Would that affect his riding? I went about half a mile from home towards our shop~~he went into the shop driveway & would go no further east. Then we went south about half mile. He stopped~~turned around~~and began trotting towards home. He won't turn right for me. We went north past home & he would go a little bit before turning back towards home. No matter how many times I tried to take him north, he would soon turn and head for home. When we came back in the yard, he went right to the trailer & stood there. We moved from there, he walked me under a tree!! Is this his instincts kicking in? Hubby thinks it is due to his personal experience with cattle. When trotting what is my best option?? The saddle was rubbing the inside of my legs~do I go up on my feet? (I ride western) The odd question~~what to do about wood ticks! I never saw one on him till recently. Around his butt....and also on his manly area. I don't think he would react positively to me picking ticks from those areas. What do you do? Thanks all!! This is not like him. He can be a snob, but not ever to this extent! The sky was DARK DARK blue most of the way around us when I headed out on the ride. He wasn't himself on this ride. He rarely ever wants to trot and the fact he trotted to the yard was different. He ALWAYS heads north with no issues but not yesterday. Not only taking me to a trailer, but standing right under a tree?? That's not like him! I'll ride again when the weather improves & the rain stops and see how things are from there. If he was like this every ride, I'd say sure, I have to be more firm with him, but he's not. moreResolved Question: Why does everyone think being redneck is bad?
My uncle is a very country man, drinks beer, talks that country talk but he's great with machinery and is a smart man in the cattle business, he doesn't live in a trailer park or on welfare. How is that being dumb or uneducated? moreResolved Question: words ending in "er" and "or".?
Anyone know the rules for these words? One would use tailor or doctor but would use "er" for words like baker. Wouldn't use bakor. And how bout this one...a tractor trailer. Makes no sense. And while we're about it, how about the pronunciations of bird and heard? Pronounced bird and herd, but what about a herd or cattle? Now think about beard, spelled just like heard but when someone grows facial hair we don't say that he has grown a bird. Or that I heared what you said. moreResolved Question: Whats FEMA up to these days?

I'm only 18 years old, but i've been trying to find a job as an owner/operator of a 1 ton dual wheel pickup. Ever place i've called, such as classic transport and other companies contracting to travel trailer & automotive carriers, etc. has a minimum age of 25 or 21 on their insurance. What else can i do to make money with this truck? What would be a good place to get cargo insurance from that wouldn't be rediculously expensive to me so I could transport cars/trailers/cattle etc. myself? Thank you for your responses. Yea I thought about it because scrap is so high, but there is a lot to learn to actually make enough money to make it worth while, with the cost of the truck and all. I see 1 ton duallys pulling 3 car haulers all day long with 2 or 3 cars on the back, there has got to be a market for it and it seems the going rate is pretty decent too at about .85 to 1.35 a mile. I just don't know where to start looking for contracts or how to talk, for example, a rv dealership into a contract. moreResolved Question: This is not exactly a question but any one can enter their comment on this. I am against animal cruelty.?
This morning on the 7/4 news they showed inhumane treatment of sick cows that were being shoved around with a fork lift, beaten across the head with a stick or something similar, or they were being dragged out of the trailer that they were brought in by a rope around a front leg. That made so upset that I couldn't believe they would show that on t.v. with all of americas children home and able to see that. What is everyone elses opinion on this and how would you go about putting a stop to this? I don't care if they are cattle or not, they do not deserve to be treated inhumanely if they are sick then euthanize them in the least painful way. moreResolved Question: How much do you think he is worth?
NO, I am NOT selling him. Okay I own a Moriesian (morgan cross friesian) gelding. He is 12 years old. He is un-registered but is on a pony club circuit and has been since he was 8. I also show him about 15-19 times a year and we show hunter/jumper and we are starting eventing this year. He also does some dressage. He has been in championships about 10 times and wins a lot of his shows (but not all). He knows how to cut cattle also even though he hasn't done it since a clinic 2 years ago. He is in perfect condition. He is exactly 14.3 hands high. He lives in pasture 24-7 unless he is at stall rest or at a show. He trailers perfectly (practically walks in himself). Really no vices. He bucks sometimes coming up to a jump..but never rears. He trims, ties, and is up to date on all vaccines. Here are some pics of him.. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g189/Elitemybaby/Bronson/JumpingBronson009.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g189/Elitemybaby/Bronson/MYBaby008.jpg And he calls for an experienced rider cause he can get pretty excited and dances around. 60,000? I don't think he is worth near that much. Haha moreResolved Question: How much should I ask for my mare?
I am selling my paint appendix quarter mare. She is nine years old, registered, has excellent bloodlines with Bold ruler and raise a native on one side and three bars and doc bar on the other. She is dressage trained, rides western, jumps like a dream with no hesitation, has been barrel raced and shows interest towards cattle. She has no vices and will ground tie for clipping bathing and walks in the trailer on her own. She doesn't spook but shouldn't be used as a beginner/kids horse. What should I ask for her? She has also been shown by a 14yr old successfully. She has placed many times and won highpoint at her first dressage show with a score of a 69 in one class and a 68 in the other. She is still being shown at horse trials, which are scored opposite of dressage, and scores consistently in the 30s with her worst score being a 42 the day after her hoof absessed. She has also never knocked down a rail or refused. I do have records of this. I'm selling her in east texas moreResolved Question: Living Quarters livestock Trailers?
Are there any companies that make livestock (NOT HORSE TRAILERS) that have living quarters in them. Dont say Featherlite or EBY or Corn PRO. I have already looked. I need a company that makes them especially for cattle. The trailers would be prefferebly aluminum. These are NOT HORSE TRAILERS. I want a trailer I can use for cattle. Only answer if you know what I am asking. moreResolved Question: Should drunken bovicidal maniacs be charged with murder or animal cruelty?
PULASKI COUNTY Several Cows Killed In Suspected DUI Accident At least three cows died and several others were euthanized by police and animal control officers after a trailer carrying 42 head of cattle crashed late Monday night in Pukaski County. Police say the incident happened at about 11:15 p.m. on Kentucky 2227, which is the old section of US 27 near the Clifty Road intersection in Somerset. Rodney Cook, 47, of Lancaster, South Carolina was southbound on KY 2227 in a 2000 Peterbilt semi tractor and trailer. Police say Cook failed to negotiate a right curve just prior to the new US 27 intersection and overturned. The roadway was blocked for approximately 6 ½ hours while the cattle were contained and the truck was up righted. Cook was arrested at the scene after failing several field sobriety tests. He is being held in the Pulaski County Detention Center for DUI 1st offense. http://www.wlextv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7220136 moreResolved Question: Do you know what the worst is?
The worst feeling in the world, isn't to drive into your yard, having been away for around an hour, to find an old mare has died suddenly while you're away, peacefully with her last mouthful of hay in place. The worst feeling in the world, is not getting up two days later, looking out of your window and seeing your favourite filly has died durung the night. It's not even having to load her on the trailer and take her to the city for a necropsy. The worst feeling is getting the phone call telling you that she died of heart failure, probably due to eating medicated cattle food. The diagnoses is confusing as we have had no medicated food on the farm in the two years we have been here, and there are no traces of anything that has been unearthed from previous owners. No, the worst feeling in the world is when the vet tells you that if your other horses have eaten the same thing, there is nothing that can be done, there is no antidote, all you can do is watch and wait. Thanks everyone who has replied, I know that there are no answers, I just needed some support last night. The other two are OK this morning, so fingers crossed. The real annoying thing is that we don't bring in any feed for any of the animals, we grow our own straights on the farm and mix to suit. The only extras they get are mineral blocks and pasture blocks, but we haven't started bringing those in yet. We live in a rural area, so chance of anyone bringing anything in is remote, hell no one round here buys medicated feed moreResolved Question: Can any one help transport a pony and cart from the lake district to the staffordshire area, trailer to small

My cousin is selling one of her filly to theses people who are moving to TN (we live in TX), this filly has got in are trailer plenty of times without any problems (are trailer is a cattle trailer) But the people who are buying her gave us there trailer to get her to go in it (its a horses box/closed in with a with a divider straight down the middle) she wont go in the trailer which were thinking that mabey she dosnt like it cause its closed in which she isnt familar to. we want her to be really good before they come to get her because sence there moving so far, they would have to take her out to let her walk around somewhere, then put her back up in the trailer. The last time we tried to put her in that trailer she went CRAZY & hurt her self from running into the trailer doors, someone please help us get her in the trailer! We have put the trailer out in the pasture with her, with the doors open, she has seen her 1/2 brother jump in there like nothing with out a lead rope or halter (he LOVES trailers & will get inside of any if he can), we've put her mom in one side but she still didnt want anything to do with it. moreResolved Question: I NeeD HELP!!!!!Trailers are my ?'s?

Please help me. i need to get a trailer for my truck! ok. i know it sounds weird... i need a livestock trailer. nothing that is for horses only for cattle.. i need something that is 24 feet long almost!! PLEASE HELP ME!!! moreResolved Question: Natural for Horses? Debate of the day question?
This should draw a lot of fire. I see this all of the time on Answers. This headset (refered to a western pleasure horse), gait, training method, way of riding, bit, etc. are not "natural" to a horse. OK, then what is? Horses are not predators, but we teach them to chase cattle. We teach them to rein, spin, run barrels, jump, drive and a host of other things. And while I am all for a kinder, gentler way of achieving these things, I am not sure how to do it "naturally". We keep them in stalls and feed them grains they would never eat otherwise. We worm and give them shots. Stick them in trailers and haul them around from place to place. Should our horses all be running wild & free? That is about as natural as you can get. So I would really like to know what you consider natural to a horse. And this is one thing you need to think about. If it was natural, then why do we have to train them to do it? I am in no way saying that animals should only be allowed to run free. BUT what I am trying to say is that everytime someone heres asks a training question (usually about bits or headsets), they get jumped on for not doing something "naturally". So what is the "natural" method to train a top pleasure, rope or any other discipline? moreResolved Question: Is this shocking to you?
Ok so my uncle owns a cattle ranch in new Mexico. So anyways a few days ago he caught some guy loading up his cattle on a semi trailer. It turned out the guy was from Mexico he was illegal he stole the truck from a truck stop in Texas and also had a Fake drivers ID. So my uncle shot him and killed him for trying to steal his cattle which is legal. Do you agree with this? Note my family has a rancher background and I think it is justified the shooting it is. This is the 3rd time its happened in the past 16 years. moreResolved Question: Is Theonomy/Reconstructionism a legitimate Christian position?
I don't think it is. I believe it is a theory made up by a bunch of wacky trailer park types who herd cattle in the mid-west. moreResolved Question: Bulls and Cows....funny or not...?
Three bulls are all living on a farm very happily. One day the farmer came home and stated that he had just bought a new bull at the auction and that he would be arriving soon. Well this would disrupt the society that the bulls had established amongst themselves, so they decided to have a meeting. The first bull says, "I have been here 5 years and we have established a nice community of cattle. We have divided the 100 cows between us so that each of us are happy. I am not going to give this new guy any of my cows." The second bull says, "I have been here 3 years and I have me 50 cows. I feel that I can take care of these cows just fine. I am not giving this new guy any of my cows. He is going to have to get his own." The third bull says, "I have only been here a year, but you guys have treated me really well. You were nice enough to give me 10 of your cows and for that I am really thankful to you guys. Since I only have 10 cows I am not going to give this new guy any of my cows. He is on his own." With it decided that no cows were going to be given to the new bull, the meeting was adjourned just as a tractor-trailer pulled onto the farm. The driver dropped the ramp of the trailer to let this new bull out. Off the truck came the biggest bull anyone had ever seen. The ramp bent underneath the massive weight of this bull. He weighed in at 4700 pounds. The ground shook with every step he took. The first bull looked at the other two and said, "Well on second thought, we might as well be neighborly to this new guy. He looks like he is pretty cool. I think I will let him have a some of my cows." The second bull says, "You know, on second thought I really don't think I can take care of all 50 of my cows. I think I will let this new guy have some. He looks nice enough." The first and the second bull look at the third bull. The third bull has his head down and he is scraping the ground fixing to charge the new bull. The first bull says, "Now son, I know you are still young and you want to protect your cows, but are you sure your 10 cows are worth you losing your life?" The third bull says, "Oh no, he can have ALL my cows. I am just making sure he knows I am a bull!" moreResolved Question: can i help my friend?
