Resolved Question: I need help with my English essay ?

Value of Video Games When I was the age of eight I got my first video game. I was hooked with the game so much that it became a big influence in my life. Everyday at lunch my friends and I would act out the characters of the games. This helped me develop my imagination because I was constantly thinking of about the games that I played. Video games actually got me into fantasy. This led to Harry Potter, which then eventually led to other books. Video games helped me in many ways and have been a huge influence on me when I was younger. Video games can have the same amount of value as a movie or book. Most people stereotype video games as violent and addictive but that is not the case. Just as there are movies with morale messages and movies with nothing but action, there are video games with depth and video games with only blood and gore. This is what academics at London University’s institute of education have to say Far from being an obesity-inducing, violence-promoting threat to society, as they are often portrayed, the games being played in bedrooms across the country during half term can be used in the classroom to help children learn concepts such as critical appreciation of narrative structure or character development which they might otherwise study in a novel… (Lucy Ward guardian.co.uk article http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2004/oct/27/schools.elearning) Researchers, who presented their findings at a seminar in London last night, believe games deserve to be treated by schools with the same seriousness as books and films. Andrew Burn, the associate director of the children, youth and media centre, said: "Games are a cultural form that is just beginning to evolve and the evidence is they can be every bit as rich and complex and nuanced as a book or a film." (Lucy Ward guardian.co.uk article http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2004/oct/27/schools.elearning) Children would be the part of our society that would be largely influenced by video games. They can get some math skills and reading skills out of video games which would help them in school. There are people who would say that video games at a young age will make children less focused and have a negative effect for them in school, and make them more violent, but it would be the other way around. Since children are influenced more easily then teenagers wouldn't it make sense that educational video games could benefit children much more then it will a thirteen year old boy? Children are the part of our society that can benefit the most from video games. They are also the ones that are exceptionally influenced by video games just as much as TV or other forms of media can easily affect children. There is also a major flaw in what parents can do and don’t do that can positively or negatively affect a child. Most parents do check the ESRB rating on the video game to see if it is appropriate for children to play, however most parents neglect to check the description on the back that might have given a game that rating. The rating is more of a guideline then a rule. Parents should check to see if the game would be appropriate for their child not by a letter on the box but by the description, because the ratings they give are not always correct. Some video games could have gotten a lower rating but others could have gotten a higher rating. There is also the rating E 10+ which people don’t see and treat it like an E rated game. For example parents are more lenient on the Ec-T ratings and don’t give them much thought but would you let a 13 year old play an M rated game? Then why would you let a 6 year old play an E 10+ game? This is what leads children to say such things as “I will frag you!” and “OWNED!” Video games can also be very useful to older people as well. Brain age can keep your mind sharp, and can keep your brain functioning properly. They can also keep your reflexes in good shape as well because you would have to think fast in these games. Children are not the only people that can get something out of video games. Older people around the age of 65 plus can get use out of video games as well. Just the same way playing a piano can keep your mind sharp playing a video game can keep your mind sharp as well. 1UP: This is actually a game I would honestly buy a DS and the game and give them to my parents. They're always doing the crossword puzzle, always doing the crap in the newspaper, they don't play video games. But this is something I think they could get into and it's non-stop, because there's so much they can actually do with the memorization. Following this theme, Brain Age has been hugely successful in Japan, and marketed to an older audience, which is probably a big reason for part of its success. Are you planning on targeting a wider audience in the U.S. as well? Like, old people? Matt: The answer is yes. Whereas if you took a Metroid, we would n  more

Resolved Question: Anyone know the first answer to the new Intel Crack the Clues 2008?

The site's up here: http://cracktheclues.intel.com/en_uk/game/play.aspx. There's a blog that's linked to it with the following information: Work has been going well although some modulus operations were required before I could proceed with the online converters. As I write however, my lunch of a rather superior Caeser salad has been interrupted by an email from Megalith management. I have been asked to fill out a ridiculous online assessment puporting to assess my credentials as Head of IT. Why must I demean myself in this way? If they absolutely must have the answer they'll have to Read Out The obvious clue: OQZFDUZA. (The R, O, and T in Read Out The are highlighted). Anyone got any clues? I've tried using the same method of letter replacement as the home page, but that doesn't work. There are 2 spelling mistakes in the blog post, but they don't seem to help. I've also tried a Caesar's box due to the mention of the salad, but that still doesn't give a useful answer.  more

Resolved Question: What do primary school kids have in those bags with the school emblem on them?

This applies to the UK. During the past 3 or 4 years, I have seen primary school children taking an A3 sized bag which is the same colour as their school jumpers with the logo on it. They are also carrying a normal school bag and sometimes a lunch box or bag. As I don't know of anyone with a primary school aged child, I cannot ask them.  more

Resolved Question: Is it possible to start a business hiring guns by the hour?

I think I could make a killing if I started one, especially with those poor bankers losing their jobs and big pay cheques... Trouble is - in the UK, apparently we need two referees and I'm not a big fan of football. Would you be willing to juggle my finances when I get busy? £22 million a year if I'm sucessful with the right applicant, plus funding for an NVQ, and a good lunch box... Without a mouldy apple. If you could hire a gun by the hour - would you shoot yourself, or the one that put you in the position of such destitution? Pardon me for this apparent barrier. One obviously speaks in a different language, and needs to learn idiocracy and humor without being literate. Annoying answers so far, though subtelty has never been an issue in my book, though sarcasm has. Have a nice effing day and get a sense of humour.  more

Resolved Question: Do you think this is a coincidence with the Olympics?

China Airmen Banned From Lunchtime Boozing BEIJING (Reuters) - China's air force has for the first time been officially banned from drinking at lunch, state media said, not explaining why it was felt such a ban was needed. "The move aims to better govern the military according to the law and maintain a good image of the air force with strict measures," Xinhua news agency quoted an air force source as saying. Under the new rules, which took effect on Monday, air force officers and soldiers may face "demerit, demotion or the sack" for drinking alcohol at lunch on working days. It was the first time the air force had "formally ordered" its personnel to stay away from alcohol, the China News Service said. The rules are also aimed at drinking and driving. "Officers would be demoted or dismissed, while soldiers were to face demerit if caught driving after drinking," Xinhua said. Digital breathalyzers were being installed in sentry boxes and posts at parking lots, aimed at stricter monitoring. A ban on Communist Party officials and civil servants drinking alcohol at lunch on work days, introduced in January last year, led to complaints from restaurants who suffered a big hit to their business. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080812/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_china_airforce;_ylt=AklwZflxCBygJIFcNkl8n1_tiBIF  more
