Voting Question: ur opinion on my short refutation?

will u please tell me if this is good enough to say that polystyrene is bad? But some people don’t care about polystyrene and styrene. They only care that polystyrene is useful, and they don't eve think about the damage it is causing. They also only care about how inexpensive it is, costing only a green Andrew Jackson. But polystyrene trays are even more expensive than reusable trays in the long run. A plastic tray that can be used numeral times only costs $2.64. If one tray can last a year, it will still cost $2.64. One tray made out of polystyrene costs only $0.02. But times that by 180, for one school year, and then 180 strays costs $3.60. That is almost a whole dollar more per year. If a school had 1000 students and ¾ of the students ate hot lunch at a school that used polystyrene trays, the school would waste $720 dollars on polystyrene trays. Schools waste a lot of money when they don't have to.  more

Resolved Question: Is 10 hours straight in the crate too much?

I have a 9 month old Shepherd/Collie mix and a 4 year old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees. The young one has been crate trained for some time now and doesn’t mind it. The older one is a direct rescue – he has lived outside his whole life so he is getting use to the crate….but doesn’t like it yet. He tries to bust out of it and I have zip ties and hooks all over it to keep him in it. He has even destroyed the plastic tray! He is doing much better and will go in the crate by himself now. The crates are side by side; this seems to help the older guy. I go home everyday on lunch and spend about half an hour. It takes me 15 minutes to get home for lunch and it is killing me in gas money! (Rather buy them toys than gas!) Question is - would they be ok in their crates all day without me going home? Maybe a couple days a week? That would be 10 hours straight! I work 9 horrible hours (1 hour for lunch) and it takes me 30 minutes travel time each way (rush hour traffic). My husband seems to think I shouldn't go home at lunch b/c of the gas money. He says they'll be fine. I know they can hold it for that long - but I like to let them out for some play time and fresh air. I feel horrible for leaving them in their crate so long! He says to start with a couple days a week. Are there any other options you can think of? What should I be doing? What should I do? Should I keep going home at lunch? Is that good enough? Or do they need something more? I'm so lost! I have a fenced in yard, but the older dog can and will climb it. Oh and they got into a fight yesterday morning, I have no clue why. Maybe over a toy? I'm afraid to leave them out together now. I have left them out for a couple of hours together and they've been fine. Any more than that I'm afraid they would destroy my house. My pup chewed up one of my chairs, but that was before we rescued the other dog. They are out of their crates during the night. Thanks for all the help! People have to work! Everyone works, it would be ridiculous for everyone who works not to be able to have a dog. I love my dogs and spend a lot of time with them, just not while I'm at work. I'm sure others on here work and have dogs too. Thanks Becky! I'm trying! I really would rather leave them out, but I'm so scared my pup will eat something again or they'll get into a fight or eat one of the cats etc. I'm new to the neighborhood so I don't know too many people yet. I think a dog run would be great, but I live in Ohio. What about winter? *Sigh* I just don't know what to do. I'm going to keep going home for lunch, but I'll start driving my husbands car, it gets better gas mileage (though it is a manual :o( Uck ). Nedra - Thank you so much! Can you send me a message w/ your e-mail address? I'd love to chat with you!  more

Resolved Question: Am I the only one that eats these horrid boxed school lunches?

Everytime I see a segment about school lunches I see kids with trays and actual options of what to eat. Where in the world are these kids? At my school we get either an orange box with "tator tots" and "chicken" nuggets or some black plastic container with 3 sections: meat, and two "vegetables"(mashed potatoes, green beans). We don't get to choose if we want this or that. If you don't like the nuggets then you don't eat. There is no "a la carte", only one fruit option once a week, and almost-expired boxed milk. Our cafeteria line is a 5ft shelf with some ladies behind it. I want to know if anyone else has to eat this.  more

Resolved Question: Gimme some GOOD NEWS????

today was quite a sad day for me; The yoda shaped nacho, nor the meaty chewbacca look-a-like (that was tempting me to choke on it because someone had neglected to prepare nachos properly) could not cheer me up as they stared from an the unappetizing plastic tray during lunch time. Even the guy wearing a purple bandana, and half-fro (Justin Timberlake?) at my Dodgeball tournament didnt make me crack a smile. so CAN U GIVE SOME GOOD NEWS? maybe your happy mood will rub off on me! i forgot to mention I'll save you the sob story  more

Thankyou, and yes, dreadful highschool, you helped alot.  more

Resolved Question: dream interpritation.?

i dreamt i was in a foreign land, that was regarded as being absurd and strange, however it didnt seem any different to me, and me and my friends were aware that "naked lunch" was playing at a local theater. when we got there, they said they were full, but then i showed them a piece of peper sayin i was baned from the theater and they let me in so that i would not come back. once inside, we decided tog et soem food, so while i was waiting in line my friends dissapeared. i aksed for tow hotdoags, which were delivered to me on a plastic tray, and were coverin ice cream. i walked into the viewing area, which was occupied by seemingly one thousand people. i noticed my x girlfriend, with whome i recently broke up, was sitting ont he stair way and she directed me to were my friends were sitting.  more

Resolved Question: My school uses Styrofoam lunch trays daily. How can we recycle them?

My school uses styrofoam lunch trays and I know that they are very poor decomposers and somewhat toxic. How can our school recycle trays? I don't think it would be smart to use plastic trays because we are going through a drought and we can't use extra water to clean them. Any ideas?  more

Resolved Question: I have a one year old male Dane (fixed) who started peeing in the kennel 2 wks ago.?

He doesn't have accidents in the house (not since he was a small pup). The kennel has a plastic tray that I clean out, but I'm not sure if he still smells the pee and thinks its okay. I know dogs aren't supposed to want to pee in their kennel, so this is very strange. I have two older dogs who have never had this problem. He is a very well behaved boy, this is very unlike him. Ever since 6 months old he has been able to go an 8-hour shift without going outside without issue. I have tried letting himn out a lunch and now he will even pee after 3 hours. Please help! I'm aware of the species. I spend a lot of time training with my dogs and everyone who meets them tells me how amazed they are at their good behavior. Potty training was pretty easy with my boy and I continue to praise them outside to this day. I am waiting for a call back from the vet, but I'm not sure how I could train a dog not to pee when I'm not home.  more

Resolved Question: Why is my dog still still peeing in the crate?

He's a rescue that is around one year old. For his own safety I crate him while I'm at work. I am religious about coming home at lunch to let him out for a pee, however, he ususally has already gone in the crate. After work he has usually peed in the crate too. I don't keep towels or rugs in there anymore...just the plastic tray. For seperation anxiety I leave the TV on and put a bone, or his kong in with him. Also, the dog cannot hold it in the morning for more than 10 minutes before he relieves himself on the floor. I have to be faaaast!!! He has problems holding it for longer than 4 hours when we're home. Should I not leave water all night when I'm home with him? Thanks. He's a rescue boxer/lab/pit mix around one year old. Resolved Question: No more little milk cartons?

I was at my child's (kindergarten) school the other day at lunch, and I noticed something quite different that what I grew up with. No more of the little cardboard milk cartons! They had been replaced with little plastic bags of milk the kids had to poke a straw through! The poor kids couldn't even pick them up to drink, but had to bend over and drink at their tray. Who's terrible money-saving idea was this?? And do other parents notice this at their schools?  more

Resolved Question: at lunch today a bat got into the restaurant and the manager took a tray.....?

and slammed it against the wall, it made me angry and i suggested to him opening the doors and ushering the animal out that way, unharmed....instead the bat flew into the back and an employee came out with a plastic garbage bag with the dead animal in it. Anything I can do about that, or is it pretty much over and done with? Can I call anyone, or report it somewhere? I am asking here as there is no other Vegan area, that I have found. I am a bit confused...was this question about abortion? I am sure not, its about animal rights, your answer Mags has no relevance here.  more
